Compact Electric Chinese from the Ocean Series Combines Blade LFP Battery, Charging from 30% to 80% in 18 Min and ADAS God’s Eye C Package with Aggressive Prices in China.

The BYD Sealion 05 EV is the new compact electric SUV that has been attracting attention for combining ultra-fast charging, competitive range, and a robust technology package at a price below that of rivals.

Officially launched in China on March 25, 2025, the model debuted with range of up to 520 km (CLTC cycle), e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture, and the God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100) driver assistance system. According to CnEVPost, prices start at 117,800 yuan and go up to 137,800 yuan. In a direct conversion to Brazilian Real, that amounts to R$ 89,400.00 and R$ 104,600.00, respectively.

Charging in 18 Minutes and 520 km Range in BYD Sealion 05 EV

The most repeated technical highlight at the debut was the charging time. According to CnEVPost and Electrek, the Sealion 05 EV supports peak DC charging at 156 kW and charges from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes, a level that reduces range anxiety and brings daily use closer to what drivers are accustomed to with combustion engines.

The declared range reaches 520 km in the CLTC cycle for versions with the larger battery. This is a Chinese measurement cycle typically more optimistic than the European WLTP, but still gives a good indication of range in light to moderate use. The basic versions use 50.05 kWh and the higher versions 60.9 kWh, always with BYD’s Blade Battery LFP, known for its high thermal stability and robustness.

For real-world use, the combination of LFP chemistry and fast charging facilitates trips with short stops. In cities with a good network of chargers, 18 minutes between 30% and 80% tends to be sufficient to replenish dozens of kilometers. The promise of speed relies not only on the battery, but also on power electronics and thermal management of the system, points already emphasized by BYD in its recent ultrafast charging launches.

e-Platform 3.0 Evo, Rear-Wheel Drive and Performance of Up to 7.2 s from 0 to 100 km/h

Built on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, the Sealion 05 EV prioritizes efficiency and electronic integration. The platform debuted in 2024 and has been applied to newer models in the brand with gains in charging and consumption. The SUV measures 4,520 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,630 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, typical dimensions of a compact SUV with good interior space.

All versions utilize a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle with rear-wheel drive. The entry-level configuration delivers 140 kW (190 hp) and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 s; the others increase to 160 kW (about 215 hp) and reduce the time to 7.2 s. The top speed is limited to 180 km/h to prioritize efficiency. These numbers place BYD in the performance zone of more expensive rivals while maintaining a focus on consumption and comfort.

The design follows the Ocean Aesthetics language, with a closed front typical of electric vehicles, flush door handles, and rear lights connecting the ends with an LED bar. Inside, there is an 8.8″ digital display and a 12.8″ multimedia central, as well as practical solutions such as a console with storage and up to 600 liters of trunk space, expandable to 1,460 liters, with a frunk of 110 liters.

ADAS God’s Eye C, NOA on Highways and What is “Level 2+” in Practice

The Sealion 05 EV comes factory-equipped with God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100), a suite of assistance that combines cameras, radars, and ultrasound to offer features like NOA on highways and lane assist with constant driver supervision. CnEVPost details that the C is the most accessible version of the God’s Eye family, focusing on camera vision and continuous updates.

In February 2025, BYD announced that it would expand God’s Eye across the entire lineup, making advanced functions more accessible. International reports emphasize that the package aligns with what the market calls level 2+, meaning robust assistance but without full autonomous driving; driver attention is mandatory and current legislation requires human supervision.

For the consumer, what matters is the experience. On well-mapped highway routes, NOA helps maintain lanes, adjusts speed, and can perform assisted overtakes, reducing fatigue. In urban environments, legal and technical limits still restrict some features, though BYD promises upgrades via OTA throughout the vehicle’s life cycle.

Aggressive Price in China and Positioning Against Electric Rivals

The pricing positioning is one of the strengths of the Sealion 05 EV: 117,800 to 137,800 yuan at launch, a range that, converted, is below what is practiced by global electric SUVs with similar features. Chinese and international specialized publications highlighted that BYD wants to increase market share with high value for money, putting pressure on direct competitors of similar size and proposal.

This package includes Blade LFP battery, charging from 30–80% in 18 min, RWD, and ADAS as standard, a rare combination in this price range. It’s the kind of technical specification that typically accelerates the adoption of electric vehicles in large Chinese cities, with growing charging infrastructure and regional incentives.

And what about Brazil? So far, BYD has not officially announced the arrival of the Sealion 05 EV to the Brazilian market in the March launch communications. However, the brand has been expanding its portfolio and regional production, which keeps the possibility open in the medium term.
