Free and online technology courses gain prominence amid the difficulty of Brazilian companies in hiring qualified professionals, with short-term training, free certification, and options ranging from programming and databases to networks, applications, and digital tools.
The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul offers free, online, and short-term courses in the field of IT, with options focused on programming, databases, web development, applications, networks, office tools, and software project management.
The training is conducted in the distance learning mode, through the Virtual Teaching and Learning Environment of IFRS, in a non-tutored format, allowing students to organize their study routine according to their own availability and access the content from anywhere with internet.
The offer comes at a time of strong demand for technology professionals in the country.

Free online courses from SEST SENAT: the organization offers training for professionals in the Transport sector at no cost and with a certificate valid throughout Brazil
A survey by Ford, in partnership with the Datafolha Institute, pointed out that 98% of medium and large Brazilian companies face difficulty in hiring talent in the technology area.
The survey, called “Tech Job Market: X-ray and Trends,” interviewed 250 Human Resources and Information Technology leaders from medium and large companies, in different sectors and regions of Brazil.
Among the obstacles reported by companies, the lack of technical knowledge appears as one of the main barriers, cited by 72% of respondents.
The absence of practical experience also weighs in the selection process, mentioned by 54% of the organizations consulted.
Free IFRS courses aim at technology qualification
The IFRS options cater to both those seeking their first contact with the area and those already working in technology and intending to update their knowledge.
The institution informs that the courses generate a certificate, provided the participant meets the requirements stipulated in each training.
The course durations vary and reach up to 200 hours in more comprehensive training, such as Database Administrator, Computer Network Installer and Repairer, and Web Programmer.
There are also shorter alternatives, with 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, and 60 hours, focused on specific content.
Among them are Database 1: fundamentals, Database: Oracle PL/SQL, Computing: Fundamentals, Systems Automation, and Knowledge Discovery in Databases.
In the area of internet development, the list includes HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP for Beginners, Backend Development with PHP, Node.js, Web Systems Project, and React, focusing on different stages of creating web pages, systems, and applications.
For those who wish to study mobile applications, one option is React Native: Creation of Modern Mobile Applications.
The track aligns with the growing demand for digital solutions used on mobile phones, tablets, and other devices connected to daily work and consumption.
Programming, networks, and digital tools among the options
Programming appears at different levels within the offerings.
There are courses in Programming Logic for beginners, as well as Basic Programming with Java I, II, and III, organized in stages to gradually increase contact with the language.
The catalog also includes infrastructure and support content, such as Installer and Repairer of Computer Networks and Windows Server 2016, in Active Directory and Installation and Administration training.
These areas usually support the operation of companies that rely on internal networks, servers, and corporate systems.
In addition to courses more directly linked to development and infrastructure, IFRS includes training in digital productivity tools.
Options available include Google Presentations, Google Documents, Google Sheets, and Google Drive.
The presence of these courses broadens the initiative’s reach, as mastery of office and online collaboration tools has become a common requirement in administrative, educational, commercial, and technical activities.
There are also alternatives focused on design, digital games, and the internet of things.
Inkscape, Graphic Libraries in the context of Digital Games, Basic Raspberry PI for IoT, and Raspberry PI and Applications are among the training offered in the IT area.
Technology market faces hiring bottlenecks
The Ford/Datafolha research helps contextualize the demand for technology training.
The study indicated that only 14% of companies can fill positions in the area in less than a month, while most take longer to find professionals compatible with the job requirements.
Among the most difficult positions to hire, the survey pointed out specialists in artificial intelligence and software engineers.
Gaps in knowledge of information security, artificial intelligence, and machine learning were also mentioned.
The interviewed companies also reported difficulties related to behavioral skills and English proficiency.
According to the study, some technically qualified candidates fail to advance in the selection processes because they do not meet requirements considered important by organizations.
In this scenario, short courses do not replace technical, higher education, or longer practical experiences, but they can serve as an entry point, update, or curriculum reinforcement for students, workers, and people in career transition.
Free certificate and study at your own pace
IFRS informs that the courses are open, free, and conducted remotely.
As they are short courses, they do not correspond to technical or undergraduate courses, but they offer certification linked to the completion of the planned activities.
The model without tutoring requires student autonomy, as there is no individualized teacher support throughout the course.
Even so, the format allows organizing study schedules according to personal, professional, or school routines.
Each course has its own page with information about workload, content, modules, completion deadline, and requirements for certificate issuance.
These details should be checked before enrollment, as they may vary depending on the chosen course.
The certification is generated for free by the student on the platform, after meeting the requirements defined by IFRS and within the established deadline for each class.
How to enroll in IFRS free courses
To participate, the interested party must access the IFRS Moodle Virtual Learning Environment, locate the category of free and open courses and choose one of the available courses in the area of computer science.
Next, it is necessary to create an account on the platform or log in if there is already an active registration.
After enrollment, the student can follow the online content, complete the required activities, and issue the free certificate when meeting the conditions stated on the course page.
