Get to Know IFSC
IFSC was established in Florianópolis through Decree No. 7,566, on September 23, 1909, by President Nilo Peçanha, as the School of Apprentice Artisans of Santa Catarina. Its mission was to provide vocational training for children from less favored socioeconomic backgrounds.
The first headquarters was established on September 1, 1910, in a building provided by the state government, on Almirante Alvim Street, in the heart of the Capital.
In addition to primary education, the institution offered training in drawing, typography, bookbinding and ruling, riverside carpentry, sculpture, and mechanics, which included blacksmithing and locksmithing. In this way, the School of Apprentice Artisans operated in accordance with the technological advances of its time, meeting the demands of the productive sector and society of the time.
