Rare Formation Inside Temimina Cave Creates Impressive Natural Shower. Challenging Trail, Hanging Garden, and Unique Landscapes Attract Adventurers to Petar
In the heart of the Atlantic Forest of São Paulo, a cave hides a natural spectacle: a natural shower about 10 meters high.
Located in Temimina Cave, within the Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park (Petar), the phenomenon attracts adventurers ready to tackle a difficult trail to see up close the waterfall formed inside the rock.
Challenging Path to the Caboclos Core
Access to the natural shower requires preparation. It’s 10 kilometers of road to the start of the trail, followed by another 4.5 kilometers on foot through the forest.

With a gigantic arch of 106 meters and the largest stadium swing in the world, the Moses Mabhida Stadium accommodates up to 54,000 people, offers a panoramic tour with views of the Indian Ocean, and has become an architectural symbol of South Africa by combining soccer, tourism, and extreme attractions at the top of its monumental structure.
The trail is considered difficult, with slippery sections and areas where you need to hold onto roots to continue the path.
The complete journey takes about eight hours, round trip. The effort, however, is rewarded by the landscape.
According to Alex Sandro Rodrigues, a guide with over 20 years of experience in Petar, the sight of the shower still surprises him. “It’s something surreal, mixing beauty and the power of water,” he described.
The Formation of the Shower Inside the Cave
The natural shower of Temimina Cave is the result of a rare geological process. Water carves the rock, creating passages between the stones until it reaches the so-called vadose zone, where there is open space inside the cave. It is at this point that the water plunges from the ceiling, forming the shower that impresses visitors.
According to the manager of Petar by the Forestry Foundation, Juliana Conrado, the formation is a speleothem — a structure created by the crystallization of minerals dissolved in water.
The cave also has an area with dolines, meaning ceiling collapses, allowing light to enter and forming a hanging garden inside.
The Experience on Social Media and the Impact on Tourism
The couple César Akio Uehara Wataya and Josiane Ledis Wataya walked the trail and documented everything on social media.
The content generated a huge response: over 3 million views. The post sparked public interest, and the trail began to receive more visitors.
César mentioned that during the hike, he found tracks of a jaguar and a tapir. “There are some parts where you have to descend holding onto tree roots, but nothing impossible,” he recalled. They camped in the park and considered the visit a reward for their efforts.
According to Alex, the average monthly number of visitors at the site is around 60 to 70 people, but the popularity on social media has increased curiosity. “Many people went there to see this place, and it’s definitely worth it,” César said.
Visitation is Possible, but Bathing is Prohibited
Even with its inviting appearance, bathing in the cave’s natural shower is prohibited. The restriction exists to preserve the rock formation and ensure the safety of visitors.
The information was confirmed by Juliana Conrado of the Forestry Foundation.
The entrance fee to visit the park is R$19 and can be purchased online. Although it is located within the state of São Paulo, the place is still unknown to many locals. “It was quite an interesting impact,” César commented on the public’s reaction upon discovering the place.
A Hidden Gem in the Atlantic Forest
With its challenging trail and impressive beauty, the natural shower of Temimina Cave has become one of the highlights of Petar.
The combination of forest, cave, natural light, and a rare waterfall forms a unique setting, preserved within the Atlantic Forest of São Paulo’s interior.
