16th ANP Oil Auction Under the Concession Regime Raises R$ 8.9 Billion in Bonuses and Sets New Record, Even with Only 12 of 36 Blocks Auctioned.
The ANP is celebrating the result of its 16th oil auction, which took place today (10/10) in Rio de Janeiro. The amount that will enter the federal coffers is R$ 8.915 billion, related to the signing bonuses, a new record in recent concession rounds.
Only one-third of the blocks were auctioned, that is, 12 of the 36 offered, and seventeen companies participated in the auction, with only two being Brazilian, Petrobras and Enauta. Next ANP Auction Will Have 14 Companies, See Here!
The total premium of the auction was 322.74%, after all, if all 36 blocks had been auctioned at the minimum price, the collection of bonuses would have been R$ 3.216 billion.
The oil auction took place under the concession regime and the areas offered are in the sedimentary maritime basins of Pernambuco-Paraíba, Jacuípe, Camamu-Almada, Campos, and Santos.

The blocks along the Northeast coast did not receive bids, attributed to the disinterest in the concession of the blocks, due to actions by environmentalists who contested the exploration along the coast of Bahia because of the potential risks to the Abrolhos marine park.
More 3 or 4 FPSOs in the Brazilian Offshore
The ANP’s general director, Decio Oddone, spoke about the success of the auction’s collection and the demand for equipment for exploration, “We always thought it would be a successful auction and we exceeded expectations. We had the record in bonuses for concession auctions, regarding today’s auction, our expectation is that three or four platforms will be installed along the coast of Rio producing 100 to 150 thousand barrels per day generating R$ 100 billion in nominal revenue.”
The ANP also forecasts two more auctions in 2019. On November 6, the Surplus Transfer of Rights Round will be held, one of the most anticipated by the government and the market when the development areas of Atapu, Búzios, Itapu, and Sépia will be offered in the Santos Basin.
The following day, November 7, the ANP plans to hold the 6th Production Sharing Round, which will offer blocks in the pre-salt polygon named Aram, Bumerangue, Cruzeiro do Sul, Southwest of Sagittarius, and North of Brava.
More than just the bonuses paid to the government, much more will be raised in royalties and other governmental participations and investments, which are essential for job creation.
