The platform is part of Petrobras’s exploration project in the Búzios Field, an important area in the Santos Basin. It will be the seventh to be installed there for the state-owned company’s future operations.
According to Maersk, the project will be carried out over nearly two years, with onshore work — including engineering, procurement, and project management for such activities — already underway.
The pre-installation work for the FPSO platform’s system is expected to involve the use of two Maersk class M anchor handlers, as per the contract with TechnipFMC.
Additionally, four additional AHTS vessels will be used for the maintenance of the station in the Búzios Field during the project’s development with the platform.
The financial details were not disclosed, but the Danish company described it as its “largest solutions contract to date.”
In this way, Maersk invests in expanding its operations in the Brazilian market while standing out in the global offshore scenario.
Petrobras Ordered the FPSO P-78 in 2021 and Will Continue Investing in the Vessel With a New Contract for Maersk and TechnipFMC
The new contract between Maersk and TechnipFMC follows the successful completion of the significant Mero 2 contract for the FPSO Sepetiba.
The agreement was made for the pre-installation of the anchoring system in over 2,000 meters of water depth.
This project involved the acquisition and installation of 24 torpedo anchors, and the subsequent abandonment of the polyester moorings.
The FPSO P-78, located in the Búzios Field, was ordered by Petrobras from Keppel shipyard in Singapore in May 2021.
The company intends to expand its exploration campaign in the Santos Basin over the next few years, with the support of the major maritime logistics companies.
The FPSO has a processing capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day and 7.2 million cubic meters of gas per day.
Keppel is expected to deliver the FPSO by the end of 2024. The company stated that the order value is US$ 2.3 billion.
Now, Maersk and TechnipFMC will provide their services to ensure the quality of the pre-installation of Petrobras’s FPSO platform systems in the Búzios Field.
