The Implementation Is Another Step Towards Decarbonizing The Logistics Sector
A.P. Moller – Maersk will add 300 electric trucks to its network in North America. The trucks will be delivered between 2023 and 2025 for use by Maersk’s American storage, distribution, and transportation company, called Performance Team. Additionally, the trucks will be part of Einride’s digital freight transport operating system.
According to Maersk’s Ocean & Logistics CEO, Vincent Clerc, the implementation is another step towards decarbonizing the logistics sector. “Our customers are looking for not just the concept, but tangible actions in sustainable supply chains. This order is an important step in building our end-to-end decarbonization foundation while addressing our customers’ land transport challenges.” Also read: Cargo Handling Giant Maersk Seeks Increased Investments at the Port of Santos to Expand Draft
“Maersk has a comprehensive decarbonization plan underway for our ocean activities, which account for 93% of all emissions related to the company. This order marks the expansion of our ambitions to cover all services across all modes of transport,” he states.

Einride’s electric trucks are built to meet specifications throughout the U.S. The initial batch of trucks is the Class 8 8TT Gen 3, manufactured by BYD. The partnership will initiate the first large-scale use of the company’s digital freight transport operating system. This technology centralizes decision-making, providing data integration with full transparency across the spectrum of electromobility.
According to Einride CEO Robert Falck, “this is one of the largest deals ever made to make transportation sustainable and comes at a critical time.”
“Not only because the road transport sector is responsible for about 8% of all global CO₂ emissions – a number that will continue to grow if change isn’t made today – but you also have a world that is more aware of the urgent need to transition to electric. I admire Maersk for leading the way and for standing out in its commitments to make this transition tangible,” he highlights. Maersk Growth invested in Einride in 2021 with the intention of being part of its journey, working closely with a company focused on electric and technology, aiming to accelerate the decarbonization of trucking activities. The partnership is part of a global framework that enables collaboration in locations outside the U.S. in the future, and Maersk is now accelerating efforts from this point onward.
Maersk’s long-term goal in North America is to advance towards a fully electric truck fleet, aiming to provide an eco-friendly alternative for short-haul trucking.
