With Giant Tanks, Iconic Architecture, and Free Access, the Pantanal Biopark Transforms the Capital of MS into a Global Reference in Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism.
With more than 5 million liters of freshwater, 239 tanks, including 31 thematic tanks and 168 for scientific research, 458 species exhibited to the public, and operational research laboratories, the Pantanal Biopark, in Campo Grande (MS), has established itself as the largest freshwater aquarium in the world and a new icon of environmental conservation in Brazil.
Designed by renowned architect Ruy Ohtake, the building with fluid curves simulates the movement of the Pantanal rivers and challenges engineering with acrylic panels of 40 cm (auditorium), 13, and 7 cm thick and a robust automated life support system.

“We are talking about a project that combines architecture, science, and technology in the service of biodiversity,” defines the director of the complex, Maria Fernanda Balestieri.

Center for Neotropical Fish Conservation
On one of the 5 floors of the venture is the Center for Neotropical Fish Conservation – CCPN, which has already recorded more than 300 reproductions of 80 species.
Among these, 25 species have been reproduced for the first time in the world and 15 in Brazil.
Inclusion, Education, and Free Access
Visitation to the Biopark is free, with online scheduling, and features subtitles in two languages (Portuguese and English).
The space has an inclusion program called Biopark for All – Equals in Difference, where the aim is, through a humanized approach, not only to welcome visitors but to embrace their particularities.

To this end, it has various assistive technologies available to visitors, such as:
- Interpreters for sign language
- Tactile space for tactile experiences for the visually impaired
- Sensorial accommodation room for autistic individuals
- Tablets with audio descriptions and sign language of the tanks
- Access to all floors with elevators
- Materials in Braille
- Priority lines
- Daily quotas for PCDs and neurodivergent individuals
Exhibition: A Dive into the Rivers of Brazil and the World
The main exhibition of the Biopark is a true journey through Brazilian waters, and also showcases representations from the 5 continents.
Biologists and tourism experts guide the tour with educational information on various current environmental topics.
Real-Time Technology and Science
The Pantanal Biopark has a robust automated life support system, with 178 water pumps and 144 filters.

These highly efficient energy equipment are responsible for the proper water parameters that ensure aquatic life in the tanks.
Pantanal Biopark: New Tourist Icon of Campo Grande
Located next to the Parque das Nações Indígenas, the Biopark has already become a new postcard for the capital of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Inserting Campo Grande into the tourist route of the state, the venture adds value in a socioeconomic, socio-environmental, and socio-cultural way.
