Rumo’s Project Involving Billion-Dollar Investment in Mato Grosso is Undergoing Environmental Licensing
Rumo, a Brazilian railway and logistics company owned by the Cosan Group, made significant progress this week on its investment project of approximately R$ 1.9 billion. In order to expand the railway network of the Northern Operation in Mato Grosso, the company purchased 2,142 freight cars for the transportation of sugar, meal, grains, and fertilizers, in addition to 45 locomotives.

The Ministry of Infrastructure approved, last week, the project’s classification under the special incentive regime for the continuation of infrastructure with a tax waiver estimated at around R$ 178 million. Rumo’s project in Mato Grosso, the construction of a new railway, is still in the environmental licensing stage.
Rumo emphasizes that it has not yet signed contracts with suppliers for this investment in Mato Grosso, and it prioritizes Brazilian suppliers, just as it has done with all its acquisitions.

Rumo and the Government of Mato Grosso Reach Agreement for Railway Construction Costing R$ 11.2 Billion
Yesterday, Monday (09/20), the government of the state of Mato Grosso made an agreement with Rumo Logística for the construction of a new railway. The railway will connect the municipalities of Rondonópolis to Cuiabá and Rondonópolis to Nova Mutum and Lucas do Rio Verde, and it will also connect to the national network, reaching the Port of Santos. According to the governor, this logistical advancement is another important and sustainable alternative for grain transportation, with production in Mato Grosso potentially exceeding 120 million tons annually by 2030.
The contract with Rumo, which belongs to Cosan, is for the authorization of implementation, operation, and private exploration of the railway for a period of 45 years, with the possibility of renewal for another 45 years for all related services.
