Ultracargo Expands Operations at Vila do Conde Terminal with New Operating Rules, Increasing Capacity and Allowing Night Maneuvers.
The operations at the Ultracargo Terminal in Vila do Conde have been significantly expanded. This development has resulted in an increase in daily capacity for the berthing and unberthing of ships, enhancing operations and optimizing the use of available time and resources. With this expansion, a substantial reduction in queues and logistical costs is expected, benefiting both Ultracargo and its commercial partners in the logistics sector.
One of the major advancements with the implementation of these improvements is the allowance of nighttime activities for ships. This modification in operating rules provides more flexibility and efficiency for the terminal. The maneuvers for berthing and unberthing at night, now possible, will facilitate the continuous movement of cargo, reducing waiting times and increasing responsiveness to market demands. Thus, Ultracargo reaffirms its commitment to optimization and adaptation to the needs of maritime trade.
Update of Rules at Vila do Conde Port
Ultracargo, responsible for operations at Vila do Conde Port (PA), conducted a technical study that served as the basis for port authorities to update the current regulations. This study was crucial for optimizing the movement flow and reducing maritime operation times. The previous rule limited the maneuvers for berthing and unberthing of barges at Berth 502, allowing them only during flood tide and in daylight, impacting logistical efficiency and significantly restricting the operational capacity of the port.

While commercial hydrogen fuel cells do not exceed 80 degrees Celsius due to the requirement of liquid water in the membranes, researchers at Monash University on May 18 made an ultrathin graphene and boron nitride-based membrane operate at 250 degrees Celsius without needing water.

While Boeing and Lockheed invest billions in more efficient turbofan engines, Texas startup CycloKinetics unveils a synthetic liquid fuel that increases the range of aircraft, missiles, and rockets by 32 percent just by swapping the tank without changing the turbine.
The Impact of the Technical Study
Through the technical study conducted by Ultracargo, it has been proven that it is safe to operate during both ebb and flood tides. However, the approach must always be made against the prevailing current and during the day. This essential document was presented to representatives of the Pará Dock Company (CDP) and the Capitania dos Portos da Amazônia Oriental, who approved the new guidelines. With the new operating rules, clients now have the opportunity to load or unload more than one barge daily at Berth 502, optimizing operational costs and time spent on port activities.
Increased Operational Efficiency
Among the new features, the berthing and unberthing of ships at night at Berth 501 has been definitively authorized, something previously prohibited. Prior to this, the restriction caused waiting times of up to 12 hours for vessels, which increased operational costs. ‘The changes in the current regulations at Vila do Conde bring a significant advancement for Ultracargo’s clients and other companies operating in the region. Previously, a company that needed to load four barges required four days due to waiting for the flood tide. Today, with the reforms, it is possible to complete the operation in up to two days, depending on the size of the barges and the complexity of the operations,’ comments Helano Pereira Gomes, the company’s vice president.
Commitment to Innovation and Competitiveness
With the update of operating rules, Ultracargo emphasizes its commitment to efficient solutions for its clients. ‘Our continuous search for innovation aims to improve the daily operations of partner companies, adapting our operations to their needs and those of the market. The new permissions elevate the Port of Vila do Conde to a more competitive level and bring positive impacts to the entire operations chain’, concludes Helano.
