Metro Network Expansion Impacts Giants Like McDonald’s, Santander, and Shell. Understand How Governor Tarcísio de Freitas’ Decree Will Transform Mobility in São Paulo.

Big changes are coming to the city of São Paulo, and the impacts reach even giants like McDonald’s, Santander, and Shell. Governor Tarcísio de Freitas announced a decree that will lead to the expropriation of one unit from each of these companies in Guarulhos. But the reason is for a good cause: the expansion of the metro network in the state. Keep reading to learn everything about Tarcísio’s decree for metro expansion.

The Metro Expansion and Tarcísio’s Decree

Decree no. 68.552/2024, signed by Governor Tarcísio, foresees major works for the implementation of the Metro Line 19-Celeste. This line promises to connect important points in the metropolitan area, including Guarulhos and downtown São Paulo. As a result, there is a need for expropriation in strategic areas, affecting significant enterprises.

Among the main expropriated locations is the Bosque Maia Station, which will replace a unit of McDonald’s, a branch of Santander, and a gas station of Shell, located at the intersection of Paulo Faccini and Tiradentes avenues in downtown Guarulhos.

Why Expropriate?

The metro expansion requires large spaces for the construction of stations, tracks, and necessary infrastructure. The area in question, with 57 thousand square meters, is essential to ensure the project’s implementation.

According to specialists, this project is one of the largest ever planned for Guarulhos and will bring many benefits to the population, including a significant reduction in travel time between Bosque Maia and Anhangabaú, which will now take only 29 minutes.

Impacts for Companies and Residents

The arrival of the metro in Guarulhos promises to transform the region, but it also causes headaches for the owners of the expropriated establishments. The owners of the units of McDonald’s, Santander, and Shell have already been notified about the need to vacate the premises.

In addition to these commercial expropriations, the project will also affect about 400 residential lots. Families living in these areas will need to be relocated, with the government promising support to facilitate this transition.

Benefits of Line 19-Celeste and Project Timeline

Despite the challenges, the benefits of Line 19-Celeste are promising. It is estimated that up to 700 thousand passengers will use the line daily. This expansion will not only relieve the heavy traffic on São Paulo’s roads, but also provide a faster and more efficient public transport alternative for the population of Guarulhos.

Additionally, the new line will boost the region’s economic development, attracting investments and creating new business opportunities. The positive impact will also extend to the environment, with a reduction in pollutant emissions generated by excessive use of private vehicles.

The expropriations are expected to take place by the end of 2025. The works for Line 19-Celeste should extend from 2025 to 2030. The expectation is that, by the end of this period, the residents of São Paulo and Guarulhos will have access to a more modern and efficient transport system.

What to Expect for the Future?

Tarcísio’s decree may seem like a harsh blow for companies like McDonald’s, Santander, and Shell, but the positive impact the project will bring to the population outweighs the challenges. The metro in Guarulhos represents more than an infrastructure project; it is a promise of quality urban mobility for the coming years.

Now, it remains to be seen how these expropriations and works will be conducted, ensuring that the interests of all parties involved are respected. After all, progress is inevitable, but it can and should be made to benefit the greatest number of people.

Sabe o valor do investimento para uma franquia do McDonald’s? Duvido que o empresário saia “desapropriado” de boas!
E com razão!!!
