The service launched by the Bureau will speed up and facilitate the environmental licensing of the offshore wind energy market in Brazil

Bureau Veritas, one of the world's leading TCI (Test, Inspection and Certification) groups, has set up the One Stop Shop, a service that optimizes and speeds up the environmental licensing process for the implementation of the energy Offshore wind power in Brazil. The company is also offering full support to companies interested in operating in the offshore wind energy sector.

The number of projects in the offshore wind energy sector increased by 200% in the last year and obtaining an environmental license, which previously depended on only one body, now passes through 11 other departments and regulatory entities, making the entire licensing process more complex and time consuming.

According to Márcio Pereira, director of Maritime and wind energy offshore of the company, Bureau Veritas emerged in the maritime sector and for almost 200 years has been helping in the growth and sustainable development of its consumers, with its experience in international projects and deep knowledge of the national maritime industry. “Brazil has a huge potential for wind energy production and the offshore parks bring great advantages, such as taking advantage of regular winds and a greater capacity factor”, he said.

Bureau Veritas' One Stop Shop brings together, in a simple and objective way, the required demands, since the beginning of 2022. Companies interested in operating in the wind energy sector need to obtain the Declaration of Prior Interference (DIP) from 11 regulatory bodies and entities . Each entity has specific criteria and its own standardization for presenting the required documents, which makes the process complex.

The service also includes documentation analysis, review and recommendations for greater robustness of the projects and monitoring of the process for a prompt response to the respective Terms of Reference (TOR).

Brazil has a great differential to become market leader of Wind energy Offshore. For example, the country has an extensive coastline, with a coastline of approximately 7.300 km, an ocean surface equivalent to half of Brazil, combined with more regular winds that help to reduce wind energy generation costs and increase the performance of wind turbines.

Market information shows that the first offshore wind power plants should be built from 2027 and start operating from the year 2030.

History of Bureau Veritas

Bureau Veritas is a world leader in Quality, Hygiene, Safety and Environment (QHSM) and is focused on developing increasingly innovative services to meet society's growing demands.

The group also has a focus on social, environmental and ethical issues that are at the forefront in all sectors, in the business units in which they operate. In this way, the company faces the great ecological and social challenges of the century, putting its experience at the service of sustainable and safe development.

In 2014, the company also created the Green Bonds Principles (GBP), which makes the Green Bonds system tangible and also promotes credibility for operations and projects/assets considered sustainable.

The four principles of Green Bonds are: Resource Use, Project Evaluation and Selection Process, Resource Management and Reporting.

The technical guarantees of the company's operations were designed based on a taxonomy, where different sectors and economic actions are considered eligible for sustainable labeling. For each issuance of bonds considered sustainable, it is necessary to carry out an assessment of the eligibility of the projects, a task that can be guaranteed by independent verification companies, which will give due credibility to the Green Bond to be issued.
