Mercedes And Amazon Accelerate With 5,000 Electric Vans Toward Carbon Emission Reduction
Mercedes-Benz has just closed its largest electric vehicle agreement to date: nearly 5,000 100% electric vans will be added to Amazon’s delivery fleet in five European countries in the coming months. The initiative reinforces the retailer’s commitment to making its logistics more sustainable and reducing carbon emissions on European soil.
| Models | 75% of the units are the eSprinter (with a capacity of up to 14 m³ and a range of up to 484 km), manufactured in Düsseldorf; the rest is from the eVito (up to 480 km of range), produced in Spain. |
| Where They Operate | More than 2,500 vans are already on their way to partners in Germany; the rest will head to the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Spain. |
| Annual Impact | The new fleet will assist in delivering over 200 million packages per year, according to estimates from Mercedes-Benz. |
“We are deepening our long collaboration with Amazon and working together for a future of fully electric transportation,” says Sagree Sardien, head of sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Custom Technology
To meet the demands of delivery drivers, both vans feature batteries installed in the floor, ensuring an obstacle-free compartment. The MBUX multimedia system included as standard allows for automatic route planning and charging stops, integrating with the Mercedes charging station network. Additionally, driver assistance features, internal shelves, and an internal sliding door have been added to make daily deliveries safer and more efficient.
