The Metro System of the Federal District, following the recent fire incident in a train, is about to receive a significant boost with the acquisition of 15 new trains. This development promises to considerably improve the public transport service in the region.
After a concerning episode where a train caught fire, the Metro of the Federal District is about to experience substantial expansion. According to a publication from Correio Braziliense, the metro system of the federal capital will add 15 new trains to its fleet, an investment that approaches the mark of 900 million reais.
Anderson Cabral Ribeiro, President of Metro-DF, highlighted that funding for this acquisition is being requested from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). This process began in December of last year and aligns with efforts to expand and modernize the public transport system in the region.
Expansion of the Metro Is Not Limited to the Acquisition of New Trains
Metro-DF is also eyeing to improve the existing infrastructure, with plans to update and modernize the signaling system. This includes the Ceilândia branch, with an additional investment of 600 million reais from the federal government. Furthermore, a budget of 400 million reais is allocated for updating the control and signaling system, benefiting expansions in Samambaia and Ceilândia.
