The 50 Concessions, Privatizations, and Renewals Are Expected to Generate R$ 137.5 Billion in Contracted Investments and Create More Than 2 Million Jobs
About 2 million jobs will be created next year with the sale of 50 assets, which include 23 airports; 17 port terminals; two railways (FIOL and Ferrogrão); and one early renewal (MRS); as well as eleven highway lots. Today (12/18), the port terminals in Bahia, Alagoas, and Paraná will be auctioned

If the challenges presented in the 2020 scenario allowed significant deliveries for the infrastructure sector, the Federal Government’s expectations for 2021 are even higher. The privatization of the Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo (Codesa) will also take place. A total of more than R$ 137.5 billion in investments and nearly R$ 3 billion in grants for the government.
“2021 will be a very fruitful year for the infrastructure sector, a year of many accomplishments. We will have more than 50 assets being transferred. There will be a series of auctions. The goal is to contract R$ 137 billion and investments that, when materialized, will generate more than two million jobs,” said the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas.

Scheduled for March next year, the sixth round of airport concessions will take place, involving 22 airports divided into three blocks. There are nine terminals in the South region, seven in the North region, and another six in the Central-West and Northeast of the country.
With an auction scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2021, MInfra is preparing to lease two more important areas of the Port of Santos: the STS08 and STS08A terminals. The areas should total investments of around R$ 1.2 billion – the largest port auction in the last 15 years. The winner will manage the terminals for a period of 25 years. The privatization of the Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo (Codesa), the first to be carried out in Brazil, is also planned.
In 2021, another significant asset for MInfra going to auction is the new concession of Via Dutra (BR-116), which connects São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The project also includes the inclusion of the Rio-Santos highway (BR-101). The new operator will manage the highway for a period of 30 years, with investments expected to exceed R$ 14.5 billion, marking the largest road auction in Brazilian history.
In the railway sector, notable mentions include the concession of the first section of the Oeste-Leste Railway (FIOL), which will connect the iron ore from Caetité, Bahia, to the Port of Ilhéus, and the Ferrogrão, a challenging and innovative project that envisions the construction of a railway connecting production in northern Mato Grosso to the ports of Miritituba, Pará, rebalancing the Brazilian transport matrix and increasing export capacity through the Northern Arc (ports situated above the 16° S Parallel).

- Sale of Infraero’s stake in the concessionaires of the International Airports of Guarulhos/SP, Brasília/DF, Galeão/RJ, and Confins/MG. Infraero has hired a specialized company to conduct the studies. The execution of the sales is expected for the 2nd quarter of 2021.
