The Attacks in Brasília May Be the Motivation for the New Attacks on the Transmission Towers Reported by Aneel. The MME and the Lula Government Are Working with the Federal Police to Ensure the Security of Energy Transmission to the SIN.
On last Tuesday, (01/17), representatives from the electric sector, the Federal Police, and the Federal Highway Police were at the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) to join the Lula Government in favor of national energy security. After seven attacks on energy transmission towers since the beginning of January, it is necessary to prevent new attacks and possible issues to the National Interconnected System (SIN).
Lula Government Mobilizes PRF, PF, and MME to Ensure Security in Energy Transmission in the SIN Amid Possible New Attacks on Transmission Towers
The month of January has been marked by major political conflicts in Brazil, as well as attacks carried out by supporters of former President Bolsonaro in the National Congress on the last day of the 8th.
Thus, after the demonstration held in Brasília, the security of various sectors of the national industry is being put at risk with new threats of attacks.

The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has recorded seven attacks on energy transmission towers to the SIN since January 8th.
Although the connection of these actions to the attack in Brasília has not yet been proven, the Federal Police and the MME believe there is involvement from the same.
Therefore, the Lula Government is mobilizing with the PF and PRF to reinforce security in the SIN and ensure the continuity of energy transmission throughout the country.
The meeting held yesterday at the MME opened space for suggestions of actions that could prevent new attacks on the transmission towers of this resource.
The main actions planned by the Lula Government to combat the terrorists are: special inspections on the lines, mainly at highway and railway crossings, installation of monitoring cameras, and strengthening partnerships with the Ministry of Justice and the Military, Highway, State, and Federal Police.
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, assured that he will do whatever it takes to ensure that electricity transmission in the country is not affected by the terrorist attacks reported by Aneel at the beginning of 2023.
MME and Lula Government Reaffirm Commitment to the Country’s Energy Security in Meeting with the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police
The meeting with the PRF and the PF last Tuesday not only guaranteed actions to be taken for energy security in the country but also a message to the acts occurring at the transmission towers.
“The meeting served to discuss fundamental issues for the modernization of the security of the National Interconnected System (SIN). There is a strong willingness among all players in the system, with the implementation of video monitoring, drone surveillance, and other very modern instruments that we have in the world today. This event is serving as an opportunity for us to advance the security of this great asset of all Brazilians,” stated Alexandre Silveira.
He also stated that all requirements to guarantee actions at the transmission towers are already being made and will have the support of intelligence agencies (GSI, PF, PRF, and Ministry of Justice), in addition to the MME of the Lula Government itself.
The current president Lula aims to turn the page on the events at the beginning of the month but needs to continue ensuring the security of the SIN for a good quality of life for Brazilians.
