Portable Foldable Monitor from Arovia Becomes an Alternative for Those Who Need a Lightweight Large Second Screen Easy to Carry Anywhere
The company Arovia has introduced a new version of its retractable monitor, the Splay Max. The proposal is simple: to turn a small portable box into a 35-inch screen with Full HD projection, ideal for those who need a second screen anywhere.
Technology Inspired by a 2016 Model
The idea behind the product has been in development since 2016, when Arovia launched the SPUD at the South by Southwest festival.
At the time, the screen was 24 inches and functioned as a foldable image extension. Now, the Splay Max arrives with significant improvements.

Water in Peru is running out and the country raises the alarm: a community in the Andes installs 34 floating solar panels at an altitude of 4,000 meters to pump irrigation, save dry pastures, and keep alpacas alive even without rain.
The screen opens like an umbrella, forming a rigid panel. The projection module is attached to the back, and the set connects to the laptop via USB-C or HDMI. The image is displayed in 1080p with up to 600 nits of brightness.
Lighter, Foldable, and with Less Blue Light
The portable monitor weighs only 1.5 kg and folds into a case the size of a headphone. According to the company, the model reduces blue light emission by up to 70% and is fully anti-reflective, helping to avoid glare in bright environments.
It can be placed directly on tables or mounted on a tripod, with its own support. The internal battery allows for use away from a power outlet, and the construction is considered durable. Wireless connectivity is not native but can be activated with a streaming accessory connected to the HDMI port.
Also Works as a Wall Projector
The Splay Max also functions as a pico projector. In dark environments, it is possible to project images up to 80 inches with Full HD resolution. However, brightness in this mode is limited to 285 lumens, which restricts use to low-light locations. The device features automatic vertical distortion correction and comes with built-in speakers.
Funding Campaign Has Already Been Completed
The launch is being made possible through a campaign on Kickstarter.
VIP contributions start at US$ 744, with delivery expected in November. The amount represents about 50% off the anticipated final price.
The package includes a protective cover, HDMI cable, USB-C to HDMI adapter, right angle adapter, USB-C charger, and a mini tripod. Arovia already has an online store outside the platform, which may increase confidence in the project.
Arovia claims it listened to the public before developing the new version. “They told us what we needed: something bigger, equally portable, and even more versatile,” said Alex Wesley, CEO of the company. The product already has guaranteed funding and is expected to start shipping in November.
