The New Vessel From Ocyan Oil and Gas for the Decommissioning of Petrobras Is Expected to Begin Operations Still in January
The oil and gas company Ocyan recently announced the arrival in Brazilian waters of the new vessel from Solstad, the Normand Cutter, which will carry out decommissioning activities for some subsea components of Petrobras in the Campos Basin (Rio de Janeiro) and Sergipe-Alagoas, under a contract signed in 2022.
According to André Luiz Magalhães, Executive Manager of Submarine Construction at Ocyan Oil and Gas: “This is the first decommissioning contract for offshore production fields in Brazil, and we can say that we are at the forefront of this activity in our national production chain. The experience we will gain from the project will provide us with great expertise. This project marks Ocyan’s return to the subsea construction sector. We envision a promising future with new opportunities in other companies, including international operators.”
The Normand Cutter is an offshore construction vessel (OCV) for decommissioning, measuring 127.5 meters in length and equipped with a crane that has a capacity of lifting 300 tons, as well as a flexible pipe lay system of up to 100 tons.

Petrobras completes 1,300 hours of work and 15 km of subsea lines to connect the Búzios 90 well to the P-79 — the platform is ready to produce 180,000 barrels per day and is just awaiting ANP approval.
Origin of the Ocyan Decommissioning Vessel
The decommissioning vessel was in Norway, from where it departed for Scotland, where the pipe retrieval and lay systems were installed. It then began its journey to Brazil on December 12, 2022.
Starting in the second half of January 2023, the vessel will conduct its first campaign to retrieve equipment in the Campos Basin, where it will operate for two weeks and unload the structures in Vitória (ES) for Petrobras.
At the end of this first stage, still in Espírito Santo, it will complete the final stage of installing the equipment, reels, and storage spools for flexible pipes, necessary for the continuation of Petrobras’s project.
