Record-Breaking Movement at Northeast Airports Reinforces Regional Connectivity and Expands Access to National and International Flights
Civil aviation in the Northeast is experiencing its best cycle in 25 years, with strong growth in passenger movement.
Between January and November 2025, the region’s airports totaled 18.5 million passengers boarding flights originating from the northeastern terminals, a historic milestone in the series of National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), which began in the year 2000.
This progress changes the level of mobility and brings northeastern states closer to national and international routes, directly impacting business travel, family visits, and tourism.

What Happened and Why It Caught Attention
The volume of 18.5 million passengers boarded in 2025, from January to November, marks the highest number ever recorded in the historical series of Anac.
The result points to the Northeast’s best performance in domestic and international aviation, with consistent growth throughout the year.
The region also demonstrated an increase in connectivity, with more people using air travel for different reasons, without relying solely on traditional high season periods.
Growth Compared to 2024 Shows New Phase of Mobility
In the same period of the previous year, 17.6 million people boarded at Northeast airports.
The difference represents nearly 1 million new travelers compared to the previous period, reinforcing the increase in demand.
This leap indicates an expansion of access to air transportation, following the warming of the regional economy and greater interest in travel between states and cities.
November Broke Records and Reinforced Demand Throughout the Year
The beginning of November confirmed the upward trend already observed in 2025.
In just the last measured month, 1.69 million passengers began journeys from the Northeast, a historical record for November.
The volume was about 120 thousand above November 2024, demonstrating a strong demand that remains robust beyond the high season.
International Flights Gain Strength and Reduce Dependence on the Southeast
The internationalization of terminals elevated the Northeast to a direct departure point from Brazil to abroad.
From January to November, more than 771 thousand passengers departed from the region with international destinations, reinforcing the expansion of the network.
This movement reduces the need for connections in the Southeast and shortens the path to destinations outside the country, impacting convenience and total travel time.
Lisbon Leads the Flow and Concentrates Almost 40% of International Movement
Routes to Europe stood out, creating a significant air corridor to the continent.
Flights to Lisbon were the most sought after individually and accounted for about 40% of the entire international flow departing from the Northeast during the period.
In addition to Portugal, destinations such as Paris, Buenos Aires, and Miami also showed strong presence, connecting the region to important global centers.
Recife, Salvador, and Fortaleza Lead Embarkations in the Region
Among the airports, Recife (PE) was the leader, with 4.45 million embarkations accumulated between January and November.
Following are Salvador (BA), with 3.56 million, and Fortaleza (CE), with 2.74 million.
Other regional destinations also gained traction, such as Maceió (AL) and Porto Seguro (BA), which surpassed 1 million embarked passengers in the year, increasing the reach of aviation in the Northeast.
The Northeast concludes the period with figures that position the region at the center of air transport growth in Brazil, with 18.5 million passengers by November 2025.
The combination of strong demand, expansion of routes, and strengthening of international flights points to greater connectivity, with direct impacts on mobility and travel options for those boarding at northeastern airports.
