Petrobras Closes Two Contracts with Norwegian Company Shearwater GeoServices for 4D Seismic Surveys
Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has closed two contracts with Norwegian Shearwater GeoServices, which will provide 4D seismic surveys for the Jubarte and Tartaruga Verde fields in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil. Combined, the two surveys add eight months to the company’s order backlog. The survey is scheduled to begin in early 2024.

The surveys will be divided into two contracts. The first contract allows for a second 4D monitor survey in the Jubarte (Jubarte) and Baleia Anã fields, with a planned start in the third quarter of 2023. The second contract covers the acquisition of a high-resolution baseline 4D survey, along with gravitational and magnetic measurements, over the Tartaruga Verde (Green Turtle) field.
Petrobras Investments and Their Relationship with Norwegian Shearwater GeoServices
Regarding investments by Brazil’s oil giant, Petrobras revealed its intention to spend 16 billion dollars on the revitalization project of the Campos Basin at the beginning of this year. With this budget, there are plans to install three new FPSOs and interconnect more than 100 wells over the next five years.

The last partnership between Shearwater GeoServices and Petrobras pertains to the Grand Iara offshore Project in Brazil. Thus, Shearwater announced in October that it had signed a contract to deliver a large ocean-bottom node (OBN) survey in deep waters over the project operated by Petrobras, which includes Berbigão, Sururu, and the Shared Reservoir of Atapu in the Santos Basin.
The Norwegian company partnering with Petrobras is a global provider of powerful marine geophysical acquisition and processing services, from sensor to image. According to its CEO, Irene Waage Basili, “Shearwater has a strong track record in Brazil and a well-established relationship with Petrobras. We look forward to applying our world-leading time-lapse geophysical survey capabilities to these major projects.”
