Yamaha is strengthening its presence in the affordable motorcycle segment with the launch of a new model, strategically priced in the range of R$ 9 thousand. This launch positions Yamaha as a direct competitor to the Honda Pop, Honda’s most accessible model. Currently, in the Brazilian market, the Honda Pop is available for about R$ 9,370, making Yamaha’s new offering a competitive alternative in terms of price.

Yamaha is fully entering the world of affordable motorcycles, and the new PG-1 2024 is proof of that. Launched in Thailand as an accessible alternative in the CUB category, the new affordable motorcycle comes to directly compete with the famous Honda Pop 110 or Biz.

Its price is nothing less than 64,900 Thai baht, which, in direct conversion to our currency, is about R$ 9,1 thousand excluding other taxes. The big idea behind Yamaha’s PG-1 is that it doesn’t settle for just being another CUB in the market. With an adventurous touch, the affordable motorcycle rival of the Honda Pop stands out, even reminiscent of the Honda CT125 Hunter Cub, which is popular in some Asian markets.

The mixed tires, 16-inch spoked wheels, and fork guards provide the motorcycle with a more robust look, ready to tackle different terrains. Yamaha spared no detail, allowing the new affordable motorcycle to be customized with accessories, such as a small “snout” in front and a more prominent fender, giving it an off-road touch.

The suspensions, although not extremely long, offer 130 mm of travel in the front and 109 mm in the rear. As for the brakes, there is a disc in the front and a drum in the back. Under the 5.1-liter tank, the motorcycle houses a 114 cc single-cylinder engine with 10 horsepower, combined with a 4-speed gearbox. Lightweight and agile, the PG-1 weighs only 107 kg dry.

Honda Is Not Left Behind and Also Launches a New Model

In addition to Yamaha with its new affordable motorcycle, Honda has also announced a new inexpensive motorcycle, called the Dax 125. Priced at around 4 thousand, the model was introduced to the European market, according to media reports, with a launch price of 4,290 euros.

Also known by the prefix ST 125, Honda’s inexpensive motorcycle shares the same compact base seen in the Honda Grom or MSX 125, depending on the country; it fits the Monkey concept.

This model features Honda’s current 125 cc engine, already seen in the MSX 125 and other models. Its package includes an unconventional setup and features an inverted fork in the front with a diameter of 31 mm. The base is a single-cylinder engine, 124 cc, which can deliver up to 9.4 horsepower and 10.8 Nm at 5,000 rpm.

Yamaha Launches Economic Scooter

In November, Yamaha introduced the RayZR 2024, its newest inexpensive scooter, at the prestigious EICMA 2023, the Milan Motorcycle Show. This economical model combines a modern design with cost efficiency, establishing itself as a great option in the market.

The RayZR 2024 is priced at approximately R$ 12 thousand in direct conversion based on current exchange rates. Until now, Yamaha has not confirmed whether the RayZR model will be sold in the Brazilian market, but it certainly represents an attractive alternative for urban mobility. Equipped with a 125 cc single-cylinder engine, the economical RayZR scooter offers 8.1 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a torque of 9.7 Nm at 5,000 rpm.
