The BYD Dolphin 2026 has been registered with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) and is expected to debut in Brazil in the last quarter of 2026.
The electric hatchback, which will be produced in Camaçari (BA), arrives with changes in design, interior, and mechanical configuration, in addition to a new version with up to 177 hp of power and 520 km of range in the Chinese CLTC cycle.
The updates follow BYD’s global strategy to update its electric models with more advanced assistance and connectivity features.

Design of the New BYD Dolphin 2026
The new Dolphin has received changes mainly at the front.
The headlights have a new shape, now bordered by the DRL, while the bumper has been redesigned.
According to the automaker, the goal was to modernize the appearance and bring the model closer to the design standards applied to other vehicles from the brand.
At the rear, the changes are subtle.
The inscription “Build Your Dreams” has been replaced by the acronym BYD, and the graphics of the taillights have been updated.
The rear bumper has also received a new air intake.
The changes follow the trend of visual standardization from the Chinese manufacturer.

Interior With New Dashboard and Mini Fridge
The interior of the Dolphin 2026 has received significant modifications.
The steering wheel has a new design and the center console has been redesigned.
The old rotary gear selection knob has been replaced by a lever on the steering column, in accordance with the new standard adopted in recent BYD models.
The digital instrument cluster has been increased from 5 to 8.8 inches, and the infotainment system has maintained its 12.8 inches, now with a new layout and updated interface.
The wireless charger has been repositioned and, according to the manufacturer, there is now space for a mini fridge that can also function as a heated compartment, depending on the version.
Dimensions and Internal Space of the Dolphin 2026
With the new body, the overall length of the hatch has increased to 4.28 meters, an increase of 16 centimeters compared to the previous model.
The other measures — 1.77 m wide, 1.57 m high, and 2.70 m wheelbase — remain the same.
The trunk is expected to continue offering a capacity of 345 liters, according to data released in China.
Electric Motorization and Versions With More Range

The versions currently sold in Brazil — GS with 95 hp, and Plus with 204 hp — are expected to remain available.
Both will feature batteries of 45.1 kWh (up from 44.9 kWh), increasing the range to 410 km and 420 km, respectively, according to the Chinese CLTC standard.
In China, there is also a new variant equipped with 177 hp and a 60.5 kWh battery, capable of traveling up to 520 km on a single charge in the same cycle.
BYD has not yet confirmed whether this version will be offered in the Brazilian market.
According to automotive industry experts, the increase in battery capacity indicates a technical evolution that may benefit urban use and increase range on longer routes, although real-world range depends on traffic and driving conditions.
Equipment and “God’s Eyes” System
The new Dolphin will incorporate the “God’s Eyes” system, composed of 12 cameras and five ultrasonic radars.
The set enables 360° vision, lane-keeping assist, driver fatigue alert, autonomous emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition.

BYD has not yet detailed which features will be available in the versions that will be sold in Brazil, but part of the package is expected to be integrated into the locally produced models.
National Production and Start of Sales in Brazil
The manufacturing of the BYD Dolphin in Camaçari (BA) is part of the brand’s gradual nationalization plan in the country.
According to the company, local production will help reduce logistics costs and make parts supply more agile.
Assembly is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026, when the updated model should replace the current lineup.
CLTC Standard and Range Variation
The range of 520 km was measured under the CLTC cycle, used in China.
This standard tends to present higher numbers than those recorded in more rigorous methodologies, such as the WLTP (Europe) and the EPA (United States).
Industry sources explain that under real-world conditions, the range may vary depending on the type of journey, use of air conditioning, and driving style.

Flex Hybrid Version Will Be Launched in 2027
BYD also plans to launch a flex hybrid version of the Dolphin starting in 2027, according to information released by the automaker itself.
The new configuration, also with national production, is expected to combine an electric motor and another combustion engine compatible with ethanol.
More technical details have yet to be provided.
Market and Positioning of the BYD Dolphin 2026
The updated Dolphin is expected to reinforce BYD’s presence in the compact electric car segment, one of the fastest-growing in the country.
According to industry analysts, the strategy of offering versions with different performance and range levels aims to meet both budget-conscious consumers and those seeking greater range and power.
With local production and technological updates, the model is expected to compete with rivals such as the Renault Kwid E-Tech, GWM Ora 03, and JAC E-JS1.
