Strategic Location and Job Creation
According to him, the choice of Extrema, in Minas Gerais, was due to a combination of factors such as strategic location, as the city is close to major consumer centers, the existence of tax incentives for some clients, which helps in operational viability, and the fact that Minas Gerais represents the third largest consumption hub among the company’s 260 customers.
Although it is being inaugurated, the distribution center has been operational since early July. The preparation of the facilities began in April. The unit will generate around 300 direct jobs, potentially reaching over 500 during Black Friday, and will also boost the local economy with hundreds of indirect jobs, according to the Vice President of Operations.

The start of the expansion activities of Magazine Luiza’s distribution center in Extrema, in Southern Minas Gerais, is scheduled for September. The site will be an extension of the existing unit. According to the HR manager of Magalu, Wiliam Miguel, the operation will serve the activities of Netshoes. About 500 new jobs will be generated on-site, and some positions are already open.
Wiliam Miguel states, “Currently, we have an operation serving Netshoes deliveries and another for Época Cosméticos deliveries. Thus, our expansion operation of the Netshoes distribution center in Minas Gerais will be divided into two locations, having a main distribution center and this new ‘annex’,” he explains.
Magazine Luiza did not disclose the investment amount due to the ban on announcing investments by the Stock Exchange and because it is a publicly traded company. The expansion of the CD in Minas Gerais will be located 14 kilometers from the current one in Extrema. According to Wiliam Miguel, the new venture will generate 500 direct jobs and about 1,000 indirect jobs. “The expectation is that by the end of this year, another 300 direct jobs will be created due to year-end demand. These 1,000 indirect jobs in Minas Gerais are for people being impacted solely by the expansion that is already underway,” Miguel reinforces.
