Launched by Changan Ford, the new Ford Mondeo is set to officially debut at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, following a period of strategic anticipation.

In practice, the car confirms that Ford has not entirely abandoned sedans, but has merely shifted the focus of this category to markets where there is still consistent demand, such as China.

Meanwhile, in the Americas and Europe, the corporate decision has been clear: the entire sedan line has been discontinued to make way for SUVs and pickups, seen as more profitable.

The new Ford Mondeo now exists as an almost exclusive product for the Chinese audience, reinforcing the perception that Brazilian consumers are left with only the memory of the name and the former historical sophistication of the model.

In terms of mechanics, the new Ford Mondeo is positioned with total attention to performance.

The sedan uses a 2.0 EcoBoost turbo engine producing 261 hp, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 40 kgfm of torque.

This combination was chosen to deliver quick response and the ability to drive comfortably at highway speeds, catering to the typical use profile of the upper mid-size sedan.

The choice of a high-powered 2.0 turbo, instead of smaller engines, reflects the strategy of offering a product that differentiates itself by performance within the urban and highway sedan segment.

In a scenario of increasing electrification, the new Ford Mondeo still bets on a strong combustion powertrain to maintain relevance among consumers who value strength, quick recoveries, and a sense of mechanical robustness.

There is a panoramic sunroof with almost 1 square meter, generous rear legroom, and about 47.5 liters of storage capacity combined in internal compartments, creating a user experience aligned with the proposal of a comfortable sedan for long trips and urban family use.

Overall, the new Ford Mondeo positions itself as Ford’s technological showcase in a market where cabin digitization has become a decisive buying factor.

Chinese Exclusivity and Frustration in the Brazilian Market

Despite the appealing technical and visual package, Ford confirms that the new Ford Mondeo is a product developed for China within the partnership with Changan.

Production is concentrated in the joint venture, and the most that is projected is export to alternative markets, such as the Middle East, where the model already appears under the name Ford Taurus.
