Thinking More And More About The Safety Of Its Consumers, The Japanese Manufacturer, Honda, Is Developing In A Scooter A New Airbag System For Motorcycles.
In 2006, Honda introduced the GoldWing model, one of the first motorcycles to feature a standard airbag. After 15 years, it remains a leader in offering this feature, and now, the Japanese manufacturer intends to develop an inflatable bag for the safety of scooter riders as well.

The brand believes that airbags in motorcycles can contribute to greater safety for riders. According to Honda, a large portion of motorcycle accidents that cause injuries occur due to head-on collisions, and if an airbag is inserted between obstacles and the rider, it can significantly reduce damage.
The inflatable bag system has thus far only been on the Gold Wing due to its large size. This is because the airbag bag is significantly larger compared to that of a car and can keep the rider in their original position during the impact of a collision.

Honda Is Creating A New Bag System That Fits In A Scooter
The new system acts like a curtain airbag that is narrower with the aim of preventing a collision between the motorcyclist and obstacles that could injure them, reducing the impact.
Tests are being conducted on scooters, models that are made to be used in urban areas, where the likelihood of an accident where motorcycles are closed in by cars is much higher.
To conduct the tests, Honda is using a PCX Scooter, but the airbag can be applied to other motorcycles and scooters. When inflated, the system creates a kind of barrier between the motorcyclist and the windshield, cushioning and mitigating the damage caused in head-on collisions.
When Will The System Hit The Market?
The designs of the airbag models show three possible locations for the system. The first is in the instrument panel area, the second above the scooter’s headlight, and the third on the handlebar itself. However, the Japanese manufacturer is studying the project to find a better way to accommodate the systems in motorcycles.
The manufacturer has not yet commented on a timeline for the inflatable bag system to hit the market, but all this work demonstrates Honda’s focus on finding solutions that bring safety and confidence to motorcyclists.
