Yamaha Prepares To Begin Manufacturing Its New Electric Scooter; Power Should Be The Differentiator
Many reputable companies are seeing increased competition for electric vehicles from young startups that have only been in the market for a few years. Today, Yamaha is investing in electric motorcycles to try not to lose market space to renewable energy startups. The company’s new bet is the Yamaha E01 electric scooter.
The project is not new. The Japanese company shared the first details about the electric scooter in 2019, at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Yamaha E01 electric scooter is quite different from the first models released by Yamaha. The main change is the significantly higher power. The scooter is expected to have a power of 125 cc, already well above competitors currently in the market.
In 2019, the first images of the concept of Yamaha’s electric scooter seemed quite distant from reality, somewhat futuristic. However, things have changed. The company appears to be adapting to reality, showcasing a prototype that could be manufactured on a large scale for various markets.

Yamaha is part of a consortium that also includes Piaggio, KTM, and Honda. The group’s idea is to standardize battery manufacturing for use in any electric motorcycle from these companies without much difficulty. The understanding is that the market benefits from ease and practicality for its customers.

Centralized Battery of the Electric Scooter
The battery of the Yamaha E01 will be located in the central space, essentially where the internal combustion engine would be. The same concept is used in the BMW C evolution: the battery is situated between the rider’s legs, but it was not designed to be removable.

Yamaha’s movements in Japan indicate that the company is getting closer to starting mass production. A much friendlier design, combined with the company’s pursuit of patents in Japan, suggests that the plan is about to become a reality.
