Model Will Be Manufactured in Gravataí (RS), Will Use Onix Platform and Will Have a Mild Hybrid Version; Will Compete with Pulse, Kardian, and VW Tera
Chevrolet has confirmed that it will launch a new compact SUV in Brazil in 2026. The project, still without an official name, is known internally as “Project Carbon” and will be produced at the Gravataí (RS) factory — the same one responsible for the Onix and Onix Plus line.
With a structure based on the GEM platform, the SUV will have proportions similar to the Onix, but with slightly greater height and length, as demanded by the sports utility vehicle segment. The news reinforces the brand’s presence in the competitive entry-level SUV market in the country.
Project Carbon: The New Compact SUV from Chevrolet in Brazil

The new compact SUV from Chevrolet in Brazil will have 1.73 meters in width and 2.55 meters in wheelbase, which should ensure competitive interior space. The elevated height and robust design are expected to provide the visual appeal that consumers seek in urban SUVs.

Electric and hybrid cars receive flood warnings: brands limit crossing to 20 or 30 cm, recommend up to 10 km/h, and warn that water on the floor can contaminate batteries, render systems unusable, and void the warranty.

Suzuki sells a “family 4×4 SUV” with 5 doors, 1.5 engine, ladder frame chassis, 4×4 traction with reduction gear, and a price equivalent to about R$ 66,000 without taxes, below the Jeep Renegade sold in Brazil: meet the Jimny 5-Door in India.

Stellantis sells the “French family van” with up to 7 seats, a 100 hp diesel engine, a trunk of up to 775 liters, and a price equivalent to about R$ 153,000 without taxes, below the Tiggo 7 Pro Max Drive sold in Brazil: meet the Rifter.

Forget Kwid or BYD Dolphin! The cheapest popular electric car in Brazil costs R$ 69,000, exceeds 200 km of range, and arrives costing up to R$ 56,000 less than well-known rivals.
The mechanics will be well known: the model is expected to feature the 1.0 turbo flex engine with 116 hp, already used in the Onix and Tracker. Additionally, a mild hybrid version is planned, focusing on energy efficiency and compliance with new emission standards.
New Chevrolet SUV Arrives to Compete with Pulse, Kardian, and VW Tera
Chevrolet will position the new model below the Tracker, targeting consumers who want a more accessible compact SUV, but with a modern engine and standard connectivity. Thus, the model will compete directly with:
- Fiat Pulse
- Renault Kardian
- Volkswagen Tera (expected launch in 2025)
This market segment is one of the fastest growing in Brazil and represents a strategic slice for automakers. Therefore, the new compact SUV from Chevrolet in Brazil will be a key bet for GM to maintain its market share and retain customers who are already familiar with the Onix line.
National Production and Focus on Efficiency
The choice of the Gravataí plant to manufacture the model is strategic. The unit already masters the GEM platform and has the capacity to produce at scale, with low logistical cost and high rates of localization of parts.
The use of the 1.0 turbo engine with flex technology and possible mild electrification reinforces the trend of more sustainable models, without relying solely on full electrification, which is still limited by infrastructure in Brazil.

Boa sorte
