Basically, the quick shifter is an electronic system that allows the rider to engage a new gear – either up or down (bidirectional) – without needing to pull the clutch lever or close the throttle.
It optimizes the gear transition, making it much faster and smoother.
How It Works: The Magic Behind Quick Shifts
The technology behind the quick shifter is smart and precise.
When the rider presses the shift pedal to change gears, a sensor detects this movement. Immediately, the system sends a signal to the motorcycle’s electronic control unit (ECU).
The ECU, in turn, cuts the ignition or fuel injection of the engine for a fraction of a second (milliseconds!).
This momentary cut removes the load from the gearbox, allowing the gears to disengage and the new gear to be engaged effortlessly.
Shortly after, the ignition/injection is restored, and the engine’s force pushes the motorcycle again, resulting in an almost imperceptible gear change, without jolts and without loss of RPM.
In bidirectional systems, the process is similar, but with a “blip” (small increase) in the throttle for downshifts, matching the engine RPM with the new gear and preventing rear wheel lockup.
