One of the Leading Companies in the Transition to a More Sustainable Transport Sector Is Revolutionizing the Market by Announcing the Production of a Pioneering Project in Brazil, the New Scania Truck.
The Scania X-Gas, the first Brazilian truck powered by compressed natural gas and/or biomethane, with an impressive range of 900 km. In addition, Scania confirms that another option for the gas truck family will be launched in 2024: a 460 horsepower engine.
With these innovations, Scania aims to change the profile of sustainable transport in the country, offering efficient and environmentally friendly solutions. In this article, we will explain in detail the new Scania truck, its technical characteristics, benefits, and the company’s vision regarding the transition to a more sustainable transport system.
The New Scania X-Gas Truck
The Scania X-Gas is a G 410 8×2 model, with a rigid chassis, representing a true revolution in Brazilian road transport. Its engine boasts an impressive 410 horsepower and a torque of 2,000Nm, making it the most powerful engine in the 8×2 category.

The electric classic fever resurrected Kombi, Fusca and other street icons, created a billion-dollar market of nostalgia on wheels, and angered collectors who see restomods as an assault against the soul of classics.
With a wheelbase of 6,950mm, the truck can accommodate 16 gas cylinders, eight on each side, along the chassis rails. There are eight cylinders with a capacity of 118 liters and another eight with a capacity of 95 liters, totaling an impressive volume of 406 cubic meters of gas.
This capacity is crucial for the vehicle’s range, allowing it to travel approximately 900 km without the need for refueling.
Flexibility and Load Capacity
The Scania X-Gas offers excellent flexibility for cargo transport. With its capacity to carry up to 30 pallets, the truck complies with regulations, being able to be used with implements of the Romeu and Julieta type (6×2 truck plus a trailer) with a capacity of up to 56 tons, or in the 8×2 wheel configuration with a gross combined weight (PBTC) of 29 tons.
This versatility allows the truck to be used in various applications, from heavy cargo transport to urban area supply.
Meeting Customer Demands
Marcelo Gallao, Director of New Business Development at Scania Commercial Operations Brazil, emphasizes the importance of listening to customer demands and adapting to their needs. Since the launch of the new Scania truck, a line of gas-powered trucks, the company has received requests for an option with greater autonomy, especially for operations on longer routes that require more flexibility in refueling.
With the Scania X-Gas, these demands are being met, allowing customers to expand their transport possibilities in a more sustainable way. Thus, Scania acknowledges that the biomethane supply chain, a 100% sustainable fuel, is also expanding, although at a slower pace.
The Company Has Been a Pioneer in This Trend Since 2014, Establishing Partnerships with Clients, Shippers, and Government
The Scania is committed to leading the transition to a more sustainable transport system, recognizing that electric vehicles are the future. However, the company believes that the transition from diesel to electric should be mediated by gas solutions, following the European example.
In Brazil, Scania has been at the forefront of introducing trucks powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) and/or biomethane. Since 2019, 750 models have been sold, all with Euro 6 engines since the arrival of the New Generation in 2018.
The new Scania trucks powered by gas are designed from the ground up for this direction, not just conversion from diesel to gas. They come with factory warranty, reliable technology, and consistent performance, offering similar power to diesel trucks.
