During Christmas, Brazilian drivers also paid more fuel compared to the same period in 2020 at gas stations and will end the year with higher prices compared to 2020.
The year 2021 ends with the price of ethanol and gasoline costing more in the pockets of Brazilians at gas stations, using the same comparison in the period of 2020, as pointed out by the latest survey of the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL). Gasoline closed the month of December quoted at fuel stations costing an average of R$6,890, which represents an increase of 46,7% compared to December 2020, when gasoline cost R$4,696. Compared to the month of November, fuel was 0,52% cheaper in December, going from R$ 6,926 to R$ 6,890, maintaining the declines identified in the first half of this month.

With regard to ethanol, the currently verified average value of R$ 5,779, pointed to an increase of 56,5% compared to December 2020. In addition, gasoline has been showing a decrease during the first fifteen days of December and the value, which closed November at R$5,853, dropped to R$5,779, a saving of 1,26%.
According to Edenred Brasil's Urban Market Head, Douglas Pina, as well as at the beginning of December, the Price Index Ticket Log (IPTL) once again identified a trend of stability in the pace of rising fuel prices, however, averages remain high and the price of gasoline and ethanol still weighs heavily on the pockets of Brazilian drivers.

In relation to November, the Midwest remains in the ranking of the Region with the most expensive gasoline in the country, even with a greater decrease in value, of 1,54%, reaching R$ 6,951. On the other hand, the Midwest region sold cheaper ethanol, at R$ 5,346, and with the biggest price reduction, of 6,80%. With regard to the South of the country, it stood out in the analysis with the cheapest gasoline, sold at BRL 6,723, and the most expensive ethanol (BRL 6,188).
Analyzing each state, Rio de Janeiro still continued selling the most expensive gasoline in the country, being quoted at R$ 7,282, and Amapá the cheapest, at R$ 6,388. The gasoline that suffered the biggest increase was Roraima, which went from R$6,846 to R$6,931, an increase of (1,24%). The one that presented the biggest reduction (3,50%) was gasoline from Rio Grande do Norte, which changed from R$7,149 to R$6,899.
Still regarding the State of Roraima, the numbers also showed a greater increase in the value of ethanol, of 3,49%, going from R$6,184 to R$6,400.
The State of Rio Grande do Sul had the highest average in the country, with R$ 6,983.
In the State of Mato Grosso, the value of ethanol went from R$5,461 to R$5,215, registering the biggest reduction in the value of ethanol (4,50%).
São Paulo was also highly representative in the decrease in the value of this fuel, with the State charging the lowest average value (R$ 5,078) and presenting one of the highest decreases as well, 4,22%.
Douglas Pina also pointed out that in the 70/30 ratio, gasoline remains the best option for drivers to fuel up and save, as also pointed out by the same survey by Ticket Log. This option is not valid only for the State of Goiás, which has ethanol as the most favorable, in addition to the states of Santa Catarina, Amapá and the Federal District, where it was not possible to analyze the data.
Brazilians also paid more expensive fuel this Christmas
Brazilians paid 45,53% more for gasoline on the 24th, 25th and 26th of December this year, compared to the previous year. IPTL data pointed out that at Christmas 2020, fuel cost an average of R$ 4,710, this year it went to R$ 6,837. In addition, there was a difference in the value during the three days, as well as on 24/12, the national average was R$ 6,834 and on 26/12 the value was already at R$ 6,847.
Regarding ethanol, it showed a significant increase compared to the previous Christmas, of 53,68%, going from R$ 3,696 to R$ 5,680. The variation presented during the three holiday days was even more significant than gasoline, where on 24/12, the value was R$ 5,654 and on 26/12 at R$ 5,695.
