The year 2021 ends with the price of ethanol and gasoline costing more for Brazilians at fuel stations, using the same comparison for the period of 2020, as pointed out by the latest survey of the Ticket Log Pricing Index (IPTL). Gasoline closed the month of December quoted at fuel stations costing an average of R$ 6.890, which represents an increase of 46.7% compared to December 2020, when gasoline cost R$ 4.696. In comparison with the month of November, the fuel was 0.52% cheaper in December, dropping from R$ 6.926 to R$ 6.890, maintaining declines identified in the first half of this month.

Regarding ethanol, the current average price of R$ 5.779 marked an increase of 56.5% compared to December 2020. In addition, gasoline has shown a decline during the first fifteen days of December, with the price, which closed November at R$ 5.853, dropping to R$ 5.779, a savings of 1.26%.

In relation to November, the Midwest remains in the ranking of the region with the most expensive gasoline in the country, even showing a larger decrease in price, of 1.54%, reaching a quotation of R$ 6.951. In contrast, the Midwest region sold the cheapest ethanol, at R$ 5.346, with the largest price reduction of 6.80%. As for the South of the country, it stood out in the analysis with the cheapest gasoline, sold at R$ 6.723, and the most expensive ethanol (R$ 6.188).
Analyzing each state, Rio de Janeiro continued to sell the most expensive gasoline in the country, quoted at R$ 7.282, while Amapá sold the cheapest at R$ 6.388. The gasoline that saw the highest increase was in Roraima, which rose from R$ 6.846 to R$ 6.931, an increase of 1.24%. The largest reduction (3.50%) was in the gasoline of Rio Grande do Norte, which dropped from R$ 7.149 to R$ 6.899.
Still concerning the state of Roraima, the figures also showed a significant increase in the price of ethanol, of 3.49%, moving from R$ 6.184 to R$ 6.400.
The state of Rio Grande do Sul had the highest average price in the country, at R$ 6.983.
In the State of Mato Grosso, the price of ethanol dropped from R$ 5.461 to R$ 5.215, recording the largest reduction in ethanol price (4.50%).
São Paulo also had a significant representation in the drop in the value of this fuel, being the state with the lowest average price (R$ 5.078) and also one of the largest decreases, of 4.22%.
Douglas Pina also emphasized that in the 70/30 ratio, gasoline remains the best option for drivers to fuel up and save, as also highlighted in the same Ticket Log survey. This option is only not valid for the state of Goiás, which has ethanol as the most favorable option, as well as for the states of Santa Catarina, Amapá, and the Federal District, where data could not be analyzed.
Brazilians Also Paid More Expensive Fuel This Christmas
Brazilians paid 45.53% more for gasoline on December 24, 25, and 26 of this year compared to the previous year. Data from IPTL indicated that during Christmas 2020, the fuel cost an average of R$ 4.710, this year it rose to R$ 6.837. Additionally, there was a difference in price over the three days, with December 24 averaging R$ 6.834 and on December 26 the price already at R$ 6.847.
Regarding ethanol, it also showed a significant increase compared to the previous Christmas, of 53.68%, rising from R$ 3.696 to R$ 5.680. The variation observed during the three holiday days was even more significant than that of gasoline, with the price on December 24 being R$ 5.654 and on December 26 at R$ 5.695.
