Plug-In Hybrid Sedan Arrives in Brazil Promising to Innovate and Conquer the Sedan Market
BYD is ready to launch its newest plug-in hybrid sedan in Brazil, the BYD King, with a presentation scheduled for next Tuesday (18) in São Paulo. This launch represents a strategic move by the Chinese brand to conquer the market dominated by the Toyota Corolla, according to the UOL website.
Change of Plans and Future Launches from BYD
Initially, the expectation was that BYD would launch the Song Pro SUV before the King sedan. However, the arrival of the SUV has been postponed to July, making the King an immediate priority. In the next three months, in addition to the King and the Song Pro, BYD plans to start selling the hybrid Shark pickup between August and September and also launch the electric SUV Yuan Pro, which is already in the homologation process in the country. These announcements are crucial for the company’s ambitious goal of selling 100,000 cars in Brazil by the end of the year.
Meet the BYD King!
Challenge to the Toyota Corolla
The BYD King targets customers of the Toyota Corolla, the best-selling sedan in the category. With a strong bet on hybrids, BYD hopes to revitalize the sedan segment, which has seen the exit of models like the national Honda Civic, Renault Mégane, Kia Cerato, Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, and Fiat Línea. Currently, only the Corolla and Nissan Sentra have a significant presence in the market, alongside premium models like the VW Jetta GLi, BMW Series 3, Audi A3 and A4, and Mercedes-Benz Class C.
