The Works at the Tucano Wind Complex in Bahia Are Set to Begin in October, With the Potential to Create Up to 500 Jobs Between the Construction and Operation Phases
The company AES Tietê will invest R$ 1.3 billion to build the Tucano Wind Complex in Bahia, which will have an installed capacity of 322 Megawatts (MW). The State Government, through the Secretary of Economic Development (SDE), has granted its institutional support for the implementation of the project, which is expected to generate up to 500 jobs at the peak of construction.
The works for the first phase of construction are expected to begin in October, after the approval of legal procedures by the competent bodies, such as the National Electric System Operator (ONS) and the Institute of Environment and Water Resources (Inema).

Every time a river flows into the sea, an amount of energy equivalent to a 120-meter waterfall is silently wasted, but Japan has just inaugurated the world’s first power plant that captures this waste and transforms it into electricity 24 hours a day without sun, wind, or fuel.

“Bahia has already established itself as the land of good winds. Knowing that we will start producing energy from the wind source where we previously couldn’t even imagine it would be possible is a pleasant surprise. We will have new municipalities benefiting from the strength of renewable energies. The SDE plays a role as a facilitator aimed at improving the permitting processes that impact the timeline and even the viability of wind projects,” stated the Deputy Governor of Bahia, João Leão.
The Initial Phase of Construction and Works at the Tucano Wind Farm Will Include 52 Turbines, Acquired Under a Contract Signed Between AES Tietê and Siemens Gamesa
The operating capacity of each turbine is up to 6.2 MW, totaling 322 MW across the wind farm, with steel towers 115 meters high and blades over 80 meters long, forming a diameter of 170 meters. These are the largest turbines ever installed in the country in terms of power and size, with blades, towers, and nacelles manufactured in Brazil.
The wind turbines will be installed in an area encompassing the municipalities of Tucano, Araci, and Biritinga in Bahia, significantly contributing to the economic and social development of the region.
AES Tietê Has Started Social Impact Studies in Municipalities in Bahia
A social development study of the region influenced by the construction of the wind farm has been initiated by AES Tietê to establish measures that will be implemented in the surrounding cities, aligned with the company’s Sustainability and Private Social Investment guidelines.
“We are eager to start the construction of the Tucano Wind Farm, which will open a new frontier for wind generation in Bahia and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the region,” said Rodrigo D’Elia, Director of Engineering and Construction at AES Tietê.
