Petrobras is expected to complete the drilling of the Morpho well in the Foz do Amazonas in August 2026, the first well in the Equatorial Margin, an oil frontier that the ANP estimates at more than 30 billion barrels and could redraw the map of Brazil.
The company won the state bid for the contracts. Of the 12 units in contention across the three proposed lots, Ocyan won in lot 2 with two assets (ODNI I and ODN II) and in lot 3 with the Norbe VI.
The Executive Vice President of Drilling at Ocyan, Heitor Gioppo, celebrated the achievements: “This is an important win because many companies were in the bidding with different rigs. Winning reinforces Ocyan’s strategic position with operators in the drilling area, especially in the national market. With secured contracts, we can look to the future, for new opportunities and new business.”
The companies will now continue to strengthen their relations. While Petrobras will expand its drilling and exploration projects in deepwater, Ocyan paves the way for new business in the Brazilian oil and gas sector.
Contracts for the Provision of Drilling Rigs Have a Term of Three Years and Will Contribute to Petrobras’s Exploration Expansion in Brazil
According to Ocyan, the three contracts with Petrobras have a total duration of 1,095 days (three years), with the possibility of extension for an equal period.
In addition, the three drilling rigs from the company that won the bid are currently chartered, two of them with Petrobras and one with PRIO.
The contract with Norbe VI will be concluded in August 2023, while the ODN I will remain chartered only until January 2023. The ODN II, in turn, is the first rig to operate in the Equatorial Margin, staying there until December 2023.
“The rigs from this major contract will only start working once the current contracts are completed. The expectation is that by 2026 they will be operational for these contracts, which will provide a lot of security for Ocyan,” concluded the executive.
