Bahian Company Wants to Increase the Number of Suppliers of Biogas-Derived Fuel
The Bahia Gas Company (Bahiagás) launched its first Public Call for the acquisition of Biomethane this Thursday (26). The process should welcome expressions of interest from local producers who wish to join the company’s portfolio of new suppliers and have the capacity to sell 2,000 m³ per day.
This initiative is expected to strengthen the natural gas market not only in Bahia, but also across Brazil. With its first Public Call for the sector, Bahiagás becomes a partner of local distributors who have already initiated projects aimed at acquiring renewable fuel.
For Bahiagás, this is a way to stimulate the socioeconomic development of the state of Bahia, promoting the establishment and consolidation of a Biomethane production chain from various sources within its concession area.

How Biomethane Can Replace Natural Gas
Biomethane is a gas derived from biogas through a purification process that reduces carbon dioxide and water levels, and removes hydrogen sulfide, resulting in a compound with over 90% methane, allowing for similar uses as natural gas. Therefore, it can be injected into the same network already used by natural gas distributors.
Biogas, in turn, is produced from organic waste from agricultural, industrial, and sanitation activities through decomposition by bacteria in biodigesters.
Bahiagás Numbers
Bahiagás operates in 22 municipalities. There are over 65,000 consumers, 1,086 km of piped network, and an annual distribution of more than 5 million m³/day of natural gas.
