Petrobras Announces the Resumption of Operations at Araucária Nitrogenados S.A. (ANSA), Fertilizer Factory in Paraná, After Hibernation Since 2020. The Reactivation Scheduled for the Second Semester of 2025 Aims to Strengthen the Local Industry, Generate Jobs and Investments, and Increase National Fertilizer Production.
On last Thursday, (6/06), Petrobras announced a strategic decision that promises to boost not only the local economy but also the national fertilizer production. After a period of hibernation since 2020, the Araucária Nitrogenados S.A. (ANSA) fertilizer factory, located in Paraná and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, is about to resume operations.
The news comes as a relief to the region, which has seen the enterprise paralyzed in recent years. With the resumption of activities, it is expected not only to strengthen the local industry but also to bring back jobs and investments to the area.
Petrobras Announces Return of Fertilizer Factory in Paraná
The decision was made during a meeting of Petrobras’ Executive Board held on Thursday (6/06).
-
Instead of demolishing old coal warehouses, London doubled their roofs until they met in the center and created one of the most curious renovations in King’s Cross.
-
Fungi transform engineered wood that is impossible to recycle into low-carbon insulation panels, reduce construction waste, save energy, and create a sustainable alternative for walls, floors, and roofs.
-
Bottle caps and pine sawdust replace discarded wood in concrete molds, reduce waste, reuse household residues, and create sustainable solutions in Brazilian construction projects.
-
While common slabs require expensive traditional concrete and constant maintenance, tests show that fibers from discarded carpets reduce life cycle costs and divert tons of textile waste from landfills.
From this meeting, the necessary procedures for the resumption of the factory’s operations were initiated.
Among the immediate measures is the publication of notices for the hiring of maintenance services and critical materials, highlighting the company’s commitment to ensuring the efficiency and safety of operations.
Hiring of Former Employees
Additionally, Petrobras authorized ANSA to enter into agreements and hire former employees, provided they are approved by the Superior Labor Court (TST).
This measure not only recovers jobs but also acknowledges the experience and knowledge of professionals who were previously involved with the factory.
The Return of Petrobras’ Fertilizer Factory
The expectation is that operations will restart in the second semester of 2025, marking a significant milestone for the fertilizer industry in the country.
With the revision of Petrobras’ strategic guidelines, investment in fertilizer production is back in the company’s portfolio, as outlined in the Strategic Plan 2024 – 2028+.
This shift in focus reflects not only a long-term vision but also a commitment to food security and national autonomy in the production of agricultural inputs.
ANSA Prepares to Resume Operations with Impressive Production Capacity
Located next to the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery — REPAR, ANSA has an impressive production capacity of 720,000 tons/year of urea and 475,000 tons/year of ammonia, in addition to 450,000 m³/year of the Liquid Reducing Agent (ARLA 32).
These numbers not only highlight the factory’s relevance to the national market but also its ability to contribute to the trade balance and the economic development of the country.
