Petrobras Increases Oil And Gas Production With Focus On Pre-Salt And Reaches 2.9 Million Barrels Per Day In The Second Quarter, Reinforcing Its Leadership In The National Energy Sector.

Oil and gas production in Brazil has been on a trajectory of expansion and transformation for decades. In this context, Petrobras Plays A Central Role, as it is the largest energy company in Brazil and one of the leading oil companies in the world.

Recently, the state-owned company announced an 8% increase in total production of oil, natural gas, and NGL in the second quarter of this year. Therefore, the company reaffirms its strength in resource exploration, as well as reinforcing the country’s prominence in the global energy sector.

Consequently, this advancement reflects strategies adopted over the past few years. These strategies involve investments in the pre-salt, modernization of operations, and the use of cutting-edge technology.

The mark of 2.9 million barrels of oil equivalent per day achieved during this period represents the maturity of Brazilian production and the company’s good moment.

Additionally, this growth strengthens Brazil’s position as one of the largest oil producers in the Southern Hemisphere. Thus, the country is moving towards energy self-sufficiency, which reduces dependence on imports and increases energy supply security.

Advancements That Reflect Decades Of Building

To understand the importance of this recent growth, it is necessary to look back in time. Oil exploration in Brazil gained momentum with the creation of Petrobras in 1953.

For many years, national production was concentrated in onshore fields and remained limited. However, the scenario changed with the beginning of offshore exploration in the 1980s, especially with the discovery of reserves in the Campos Basin.

Subsequently, the emergence of the pre-salt in 2006 revolutionized national production. These gigantic reserves, located in the Santos Basin, transformed Brazil’s energy landscape.

Today, the pre-salt accounts for a large part of the country’s oil production. It was precisely in this segment that Petrobras registered the greatest advances in the second quarter.

Production in the pre-salt reached 1.974 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, an 8.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

This success reflects decades of research and technological development. Petrobras has heavily invested in innovation, with a focus on deepwater drilling technologies and remote control of underwater equipment.

Thus, Brazil has consolidated itself as a global leader in offshore exploration, being a reference in engineering and operational efficiency.

Pre-Salt Boosts High-Performance Platforms

The start of operation of new platforms, such as the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão (Mero 4), as well as the production peak of the FPSO Duque de Caxias (Mero 3), boosted Petrobras’ results. Both units operate in the Mero field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.

In addition, the continuous increase in production from the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, in the Búzios field, also reinforced the impressive numbers.

These platforms are true floating factories, with the capacity to process hundreds of thousands of barrels per day. Petrobras adopted this model to ensure efficiency and safety in offshore operations.

Moreover, the use of FPSOs helped the company reduce logistical costs and increase operational predictability.

In other words, the strategy strengthened Petrobras as a regional leader in technological innovation and energy productivity.

Petrobras Increases Oil Production And Natural Gas Gains Prominence

The increase in natural gas production also deserves attention. Petrobras reached 559,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in gas, a 10% growth compared to the second quarter of 2024.

Therefore, natural gas is gaining space in the Brazilian energy matrix for being less polluting than other fossil fuels.

At the same time, NGL production also increased, demonstrating efficient utilization of available resources.

In this context, natural gas consolidates itself as a key player in the energy transition, being used in industry, transportation, and electricity generation.

In addition, it significantly contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions, aligning with the environmental demands of the 21st century.

Domestic Market Maintains Steady Pace

Petrobras sold 1.7 million barrels per day in the national market between April and June, an increase of 0.8% over the same period in 2024.

Despite economic challenges, demand for derivatives remained stable, highlighting the company’s resilience in the domestic market.

This stability demonstrates that the company can balance growing production with internal flow.

Furthermore, it indicates Petrobras’s solid presence in a competitive scenario, marked by the entry of new players into the sector.

From this perspective, the state-owned company continues to ensure the country’s energy supply, focusing on reliability and efficiency.

Responsibility In Operation And Future Planning

The Director of Exploration and Production at Petrobras, Sylvia Anjos, stated that the results reflect the technical care with the operating fields. The increase in production in the Tupi field, one of the largest in the pre-salt, was one of the highlights.

Therefore, the focus on operational efficiency ensures Petrobras sustainable growth.

This way, the production drives the economy, generates jobs, attracts investments, and increases revenue through royalties.

In addition, the state-owned company values preventive maintenance and constant monitoring, practices that ensure the safety and longevity of its assets.

Thus, technical and environmental responsibility become fundamental pillars to sustain the company’s growth.

Sustainability And Energy Transition: The Next Challenge

Despite the growth, the oil and gas sector is undergoing a global transformation. The world demands cleaner energy sources, and Petrobras has already begun to invest in decarbonization and renewable energies.

Thus, the company needs to balance oil and gas exploration with environmental and social responsibility.

The pre-salt represents a significant economic opportunity, however, it requires long-term vision and sustainable strategies.

Integrating profitability, innovation, and sustainability will be Petrobras’s differential to maintain its competitiveness in the global scenario.

Therefore, the company’s challenge is not just to produce more, but to produce better and with less impact.

Solidity And Adaptation Mark The Moment Of Petrobras

The fact that Petrobras increases oil and gas production by 8% in the second quarter demonstrates the strengthening of the state-owned company.

Undoubtedly, the company operates excellently in the pre-salt, expands its production, and maintains a solid presence in the domestic market.

At the same time, this growth brings new responsibilities. Petrobras must conduct this prominence with a balance between exploration
