Anticipation of the Commercial Declaration of Moita Bonita, in the Sergipe Basin, Aligns with the Government’s Planning to Increase Gas Production
The approval yesterday (07/04) by the ANP for the inclusion of a new well in the discovery evaluation plan (PAD) of Moita Bonita and the change of the deadline to December 1st of this year confirms the state-owned company’s thinking to maximize the production of the Sergipe Basin after Petrobras recently announced its largest gas discovery since the rich reserves of the Pre-salt were announced in 2006.
With the adoption of the measures, Petrobras aims to expedite the commercial declaration of the Moita Bonita prospect in the deep waters of Sergipe.

Magnificence of the Discovery
Simultaneously, Petrobras is seeking a partner to develop the project in the Sergipe / Alagoas basin, where there is an estimated need for two FPSOs in the region, the first will be installed in 2023 and will have a capacity of 8.5 million m³/day for natural gas compression and processing of 180,000 barrels/day.
The magnificence of the FPSO can only be compared to the large FPSOs of the pre-salt Santos, in a state that produces less than 1.8 million m³/day.
Meanwhile, Petrobras continues with high offshore activity in the Sergipe basin, with drilling being carried out by the Petrobrás 10000 drillship, which is operated by Transocean.
The Brazilian oil company is selling 35% of its stake in the area, which is 75%, as the asset has been part of Petrobras’s divestment plan since May of last year.
Moita Bonita is among the six discoveries in deep waters in the Sergipe Basin, the others are: Cumbe, Barra, Muriú, Farfan, and Poço Verde.
According to the planning of the Brazilian state-owned company, the declarations of commerciality, before being expedited, were supposed to start in the second half of 2020.
