The Drill Ships Arpoador and Guarapari at the Jurong Aracruz Shipyard Will Boost Job Creation and the Economy After New Agreement Made by Petrobras Last Week
The terms approved between Petrobras and Sete Brasil last Friday (20) will result in great news for the shipbuilding industry in Espírito Santo. The drill ships Arpoador and Guarapari, which are currently idle at the Jurong Aracruz Shipyard (EJA) in Aracruz, may resume operations in 2020.
The state-owned company informed that it will maintain the chartering and maintenance agreements for these units and two others that will go to the Brasfels Shipyard in Agra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro. The values remained at R$ 299 million in daily rates and 10 years of operations, says Durval Freitas, coordinator of Findes (Federation of Industries of the State)
” The two will go to EJA, which represents a significant leverage for the shipyard, which will have the P-71 Platform and two more drill ships under construction, this provides stability in Jurong’s production because it enables its maintenance and operation”, he adds.

Petrobras Exits Contracts for Another 24 Drill Ships
Previous contracts made between Petrobras, Sete Brasil, and FIP Sondas were terminated with the state-owned company’s exit from the corporate framework, which also includes the departure/exclusion of projects related to 24 offshore units. Since the beginning of the investigations of Operation Lava Jato by the Federal Public Ministry of Paraná, Sete Brasil’s projects have been halted.
By June 30, 2020, governance rules must come into effect between Sete Brasil and the other companies.
Currently, EJA employs around 2,500 direct and indirect workers, and this number may eventually increase as these new ventures will stimulate the local supply chain and service providers, with expectations of at least 3 more years of job openings and economic growth.
