According to Petrobras, the refineries, thermal plants, and gas treatment units (UPGNs) across Brazil will begin to be attended this week through contracts with laboratories or distribution of rapid test kits acquired by the company.
“Health professionals from all units and operational teams in states where the health situation is more critical, such as Amazonas (already implemented for operations in the Arara/Urucú and Reman hubs, with the expansion of tests for thermal plants), Ceará, and Pernambuco will be prioritized,” the state-owned company announced in a statement.
According to the National Federation of Petroleum Workers (FNP), the refineries have shown successive cases of contamination, with the most recent cases recorded at the Presidente Bernardes Refinery (RPBC), in Cubatão.
Tests at Petrobras
Petrobras reported that more than 8 thousand tests to detect the novel coronavirus have been carried out among its more than 46 thousand employees, service providers, and contacts of suspected cases.
The company stated that it tests all collaborators with suspicion. Petrobras’ testing strategy follows the recommendations of health authorities and regulatory agencies.
“This type of test detects the presence of antibodies in the blood and thus is useful for identifying individuals who may have an active infection for a few days, but without symptoms, as well as those who may have had an asymptomatic infection in the past,” the company stated.
Petrobras does not confirm cases reported by unions, claiming it would violate the privacy of its employees.
