Petrobras Received Authorization from Ibama to Increase Capacity of Six Oil Platforms by 115,000 Barrels per Day, Reinforcing Its Leadership in National Production and Export
Petrobras has received authorization from Ibama to increase the production capacity of six of its oil platforms, in a strategic move that reinforces the role of the state-owned company as a protagonist in the Brazilian energy sector. The approval allows for a total increase of 115,000 barrels per day (bpd), strengthening the company’s operational performance and ensuring greater efficiency in its offshore operations.
According to the company, the direct impact for Petrobras will be an additional 90,000 daily barrels, since some of the platforms operate in partnership with other oil companies. The expansion was detailed in an official presentation released to the market this Thursday (6), highlighting the state-owned company’s progress on high-productivity projects.

Among the platforms that had their capacity increased, the highlight is the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, located in the Búzios field, one of the most promising assets of the Brazilian pre-salt. The unit increased from 225,000 to 270,000 barrels per day, establishing itself as one of the most productive in Petrobras’ fleet.

Petrobras announces an investment of R$ 2.8 billion in Amazonas to expand natural gas production in Urucu and modernize the river fleet, boosting energy, logistics, and the regional economy with new vessels adapted for operation in the Amazon.
This increase in production results from a rigorous technical and environmental planning, approved by Ibama after analyzing operational conditions and environmental impact. The decision reinforces the state-owned company’s commitment to safety and sustainability standards, even in the pursuit of greater competitiveness in the global energy market.
Record Production Boosts Exports and Profits of the State-Owned Company
The expansion of production capacity comes at a time of positive results for Petrobras. The effort to increase oil production directly contributed to a record in exports in the third quarter and supported profit growth, despite the decline in barrel prices in the international market throughout the year.
In the third quarter, the company registered a net profit of US$ 6.03 billion, an increase of 2.7% compared to the same period in 2023. The result exceeded market expectations, which projected US$ 3.48 billion, according to Bloomberg data. This performance reinforces the company’s resilience in the face of global fluctuations and reaffirms the strategic role of oil in generating revenue and strengthening the Brazilian economy.
While expanding its production, Petrobras demonstrates the ability to align economic growth and environmental responsibility. The authorization from Ibama represents a significant milestone, as it indicates that expansion projects follow strict licensing and oversight standards.
With six platforms now operating at greater capacity, the state-owned company strengthens its competitive position and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring energy security for the country, while seeking to balance production and sustainability in the international oil scenario.
