Manganese and Ferroalloys
Who could imagine that items as different as batteries and paint have something in common? Manganese, the fourth most used metal in the world, is present in the composition of these and many other objects that are part of your daily life.
Vale Mining is one of the largest producers of this mineral, essential in steel manufacturing, as well as of ferroalloys, combinations of iron with one or more chemical elements, such as manganese itself.
Although nearly 90% of manganese production is destined for the steel industry, its applications also include the manufacturing of fertilizers, animal feed, and automobiles.
Brazil has 10% of the world’s manganese reserves, behind only Ukraine (24%), South Africa (22%), and Australia (16%).
