With 2.5 Engine of 182 HP, the Nissan Altima SL 2014 Is a Luxury Japanese Sedan Affordable, Comfortable, and Durable, with Price Around R$ 70 Thousand in 2025.

Among the most underrated used mid-size sedans in Brazil, the Nissan Altima 2.5 SL 2014 is a forgotten gem that combines comfort, performance, and mechanical durability in a package that, in 2025, can be found for around R$ 70 thousand in the Fipe Table. While more popular models in the same price range deliver less engine, simpler finishes, and similar consumption, the Altima survives as an accessible luxury alternative, the type of car that ages well, even after more than a decade of use.

The Japanese Sedan That Many Forgot

The Altima was launched in Brazil in 2013 as Nissan’s flagship sedan, imported directly from the United States to compete with heavyweights like Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Volkswagen Passat. In its SL version, the model came with practically everything standard, with no need for optional packages — something that is increasingly rare today.

On the outside, the design follows the elegant and flowing line typical of Japanese sedans of the time: body with 4.86 meters in length, 1.83 m in width and 1.47 m in height, plus a generous wheelbase of 2.78 meters, ensuring excellent interior space. The 436-liter trunk may not be the largest in the category, but it is sufficient for long family trips.

2.5 Engine of 182 HP and CVT Xtronic Transmission

The highlight of the Altima is under the hood. The QR25DE 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is the same used in models like the Nissan Sentra and the X-Trail, but here it delivers 182 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 24.5 kgfm of torque at 4,000 rpm — impressive numbers for a front-wheel-drive mid-size sedan. The assembly is coupled to a CVT Xtronic automatic transmission, with gear simulation and electronic management that prioritizes comfort and consumption.

In the tests of the time, the Altima accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in about 8.7 seconds and reached a top speed of 210 km/h. Even with nearly 1,500 kg, the assembly is balanced and smooth. The front-wheel drive, contrary to what many think, ensures predictable stability and light steering, especially for urban use.

The consumption also surprises: according to INMETRO, the model delivers about 10 km/l in the city and 13 km/l on the highway with gasoline — excellent numbers for a large sedan with a naturally aspirated engine.

Superior Category Comfort

Inside, the Nissan Altima SL offers a refined and extremely comfortable cabin. The front seats come with electric adjustments and heating functions, the dashboard has soft-touch materials, and the acoustic insulation impresses even by today’s standards.

The model also came standard with a sunroof, dual-zone digital air conditioning, a multimedia system with a 7-inch screen, integrated GPS, and premium Bose sound with nine speakers. The multifunction steering wheel and digital onboard computer complete the package.

Another point that deserves highlighting is the so-called “Zero Gravity Seat,” a technology developed by NASA and applied by Nissan, with an ergonomic shape that reduces fatigue on long trips. It’s the kind of detail that turns journeys into comfortable and quiet experiences, something rare to see in cars of this price range.

Above-Average Safety and Technology

Even being a car from 2014, the Altima SL already featured resources that would only appear years later in national models. It has six airbags (frontal, side, and curtain), traction and stability controls, hill-start assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

The body was designed within the strictest standards of the time, guaranteeing top scores in crash tests from IIHS in the United States. In summary, the Altima was designed for the demanding American audience — and this is directly reflected in its robustness and safety.

Maintenance and Fame for Durability

One of the great strengths of the Nissan Altima is its mechanical durability. The 2.5 naturally aspirated engine is known for its resilience — there are reports of units with more than 300 thousand kilometers running without ever opening the engine, as long as preventative maintenance is performed properly.

The Nissan CVT transmission, however, requires care: fluid changes every 50 thousand km with specific oil, along with preventive maintenance, are essential for keeping the operation smooth.

Parts like filters, brake pads, and shock absorbers have an intermediate cost: more expensive than a popular sedan, but much cheaper than a premium import. Today, with the advancement of parallel auto parts and direct imports, maintaining an Altima in good condition costs less than one might think.

The Altima’s main appeal in the used market is precisely its cost-effectiveness. With an average price in the Fipe Table of R$ 69,000 in 2025, it directly competes with 1.0 zero-kilometer cars, such as the Renault Kwid and the Fiat Mobi, which come nowhere near in terms of space, performance, or comfort.

For those looking for a family car, quiet, powerful, and offering a sense of luxury at an accessible cost, the Altima SL 2014 is one of the most interesting options in the Brazilian market. The only point of attention is the Nissan dealer network — more limited than that of other brands — and the need to find well-maintained specimens, preferably with a maintenance history.

Current Situation and Final Recommendation

The Nissan Altima was discontinued in Brazil in 2017, but continues to be manufactured in the United States, where it remains one of the brand’s best-selling mid-size sedans. The maintenance of used units in Brazil is fully viable, especially in large centers, where there are specialized workshops for CVT transmissions.

For those who value comfort, quietness on board, and linear performance, the Altima 2.5 SL 2014 is a true find. A car that delivers the level of refinement of a R$ 200 thousand model for only R$ 70 thousand — and which is still capable of running hundreds of thousands of kilometers if treated with the care it deserves.
