The Operation of Natural Gas Transfer to Karpowership’s Vessel Was Successful at the Port of Itaguaí. The Product Now on the FSRU Will Be Destined for the Projects of the Company’s Floating Power Plants.
The Port of Itaguaí, located in the Rio de Janeiro region, conducted a major operation on October 25 and 26. It is an activity of natural gas transfer for refueling the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) of Karmol LNGT ASIA, chartered by Karpowership Brazil. The company is developing the project for floating power plants in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and the operation at the complex will contribute to the continuation of operations at the venture.
Refueling of the FSRU at the Port of Itaguaí Marked a Large Operation of Natural Gas Transfer During the Start of This Week
The week started quite busy in the port sector of the state of Rio de Janeiro, with the announcement of a large-scale operation carried out in recent weeks at one of the most important complexes in the region, the Port of Itaguaí.
Aiming at the refueling of Karpowership’s FSRU, the port complex conducted a significant operation of natural gas transfer between October 25 and 26.

The LNG is transported by a gas carrier, commonly referred to as an LNGC, and pumped into the storage tanks of the FSRU. For this pumping to occur, the LNGC must be docked next to the FSRU.
In this way, five other smaller vessels were necessary to carry out the natural gas transfer operation to the Karpoweship vessel.
According to information from the energy company and the Port of Itaguaí, the entire operation took about 30 hours to complete, proving the magnitude of the product transfer activity.
Tests at the Numerical Test Tank of the University of São Paulo (USP) Were Essential for the Success of the Natural Gas Transfer Operation, Confirms Karpowership
The refueling operation of the FSRU vessel at the Port of Itaguaí was only possible with the collaboration of various players in the port segment.
Participants in the activity included Karpowership, Mitsui OSK Lines Europe (MOL LNGE), Fendercare Marine Services Brazil Ltd., Wilson Sons, the Brazilian Navy, the State Institute of the Environment (INEA), Piloting, and CNTIC VPOWER GLOBAL.
The energy company also stated that the success in completing the activity was only possible thanks to the testing phase carried out at the Numerical Test Tank of the University of São Paulo (USP).
In this phase, the company was able to prepare the team, create an integrated plan, develop operational procedures, conduct risk analyses, and run simulations.
The refueling of the FSRU will be responsible for boosting the project of four floating power plants currently under development in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The Port of Itaguaí was chosen by KPS to receive the FSRU, the Powerships (floating power plants), and the installation of distribution towers for transmission lines of the generated electricity.
Karpowership has an active contract with the Port Authority of Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ) for the next 44 months for the operation of the platforms.
