Prática Engenharia Wins Bid for Works at Furnas Substations in Northern Fluminense. The Contract Amount Was Estimated at Approximately R$ 60 Million with a Duration of Nearly 4 Years

The competition for works at Furnas substations won by Prática Engenharia is for the implementation under a Turn Key (EPC) regime of a bank of monophase autotransformers AT03 345/138-13.8 kV and other equipment associated with its bay at the Campos Substation (SE) 19R.

The agreement also applies to the substations located in the Municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, in northern Fluminense, where adjustments will be made to the 138kV main bus sector and the transfer to a double bus with four switches along with the installation of adaptive differential protection in the 138kV sector of Campos 20R.

A new bank of three-phase transformers of 225 MVA at 345KV will be implemented at substation 19R. Substation 20R will be built next to 19R providing greater maneuvering flexibility and increased safety in supplying consumers in that region.

The work is estimated to be completed in 44 months; however, Prática is developing the project with the condition of reducing this deadline to 6 months. Prática Engenharia will be responsible for managing the entire contract in addition to deploying a methodology for executing the work that will allow, in addition to the reduction of the above deadline, fewer interruptions in energy supply and greater safety in the execution of the project.

The President of Prática Engenharia, Sérgio Murilo Nascimento Mota, reports that various challenges are being faced by the Prática team. According to him, the main one is the urgency of the work due to Furnas’ strategic need to reduce system fragility in light of a new landscape established with ANEEL. Another challenge would be the expansion of substation 19R while ensuring the shortest possible duration of previously scheduled outages.

With the aim of increasing Furnas’ operating revenue, there is also the anticipation of the delivery deadline alongside the early start of operations and the corresponding return for Furnas.

“Prática is prepared to make the effort to serve our country with infrastructure capable of supporting its growth, and for this, in addition to the Energy, Sanitation, and Housing markets, it is committed to expanding its operations in the oil & gas market,” informed Sérgio Murilo.

Furnas announced this Monday, July 1, the construction of its first solar plants for electrical sustainability.
