Previously, the forecast for the start of oil production on the platform ship would be for the year 2023, being anticipated for this month of December
The “new” platform ship from Petrobras, the P-71, was put into operation this Wednesday, 21, in the Itapu field, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, about 200km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. This new platform is of the FPSO type, has a processing capacity of 150 thousand barrels of oil daily, as well as 6 million m³ of gas, storage capacity of up to 1.6 million barrels of oil, and is owned by the oil company Petrobras.

According to Petrobras, the new oil platform will be operated by the company itself through the Encumbered Assignment and Production Sharing regimes, with the company forecasting a maximum oil production for the P-71 platform in the year 2023. The platform ship will be placed at a water depth of approximately 2010 meters and will be the only one producing in the Itapu field.
According to João Henrique Rittershaussen, Production Development Director at Petrobras: “We managed to bring forward the production of the P-71 platform, which was originally scheduled for 2023. We will also be able to accelerate the ramp-up (production evolution), which is excellent news not only for Petrobras but also for the country, which will receive royalties from this production sooner.”

Series of Platform Ships
Including the platform ship P-71, it will be the sixth and last in the series of platforms that are managed by Petrobras, which have cutting-edge, standardized engineering, and high production capacity, in addition to a low-carbon technology called FGRT, which helps maximize the utilization of gas produced on the platform, and also cutting-edge technologies that assist in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
