Technological Innovation, Increased Autonomy, and Unprecedented Riding Experience Define the Indian Model That Could Transform the Brazilian Electric Motorcycle Market Next Year.
The electric motorcycle industry is about to undergo an unprecedented transformation.
The Indian startup Matter Motors announced that it plans to launch the world’s first electric motorcycle equipped with a manual transmission, called the Matter Aera, with Brazil appearing as one of the potential markets for the model’s arrival as early as 2025.
This launch not only introduces a new concept of riding for electric motorcycles but also redefines the expected technological standard for two-wheeled vehicles, combining innovation, energy efficiency, and a riding experience reminiscent of traditional combustion motorcycles.

Manual Transmission for Electric Motorcycle and Innovative Performance

The standout feature of the Matter Aera is its HyperShift system, a four-speed manual transmission developed specifically for electric motorcycles.
Unlike conventional electric models, where the transmission is direct and without gears, the Aera features a traditional clutch, allowing the rider much more precise control over power and torque delivery.
According to the manufacturer, the goal is to provide a riding experience close to that of conventional motorcycles, also offering immediate responses from the electric motor combined with the pleasure of gear shifting.
With a maximum power of 11.5 kW — equivalent to about 15.4 horsepower — and impressive torque of 53 kgf.m at the rear wheel, the Matter Aera accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in just 2.8 seconds.
The powertrain uses a liquid-cooled central motor, a feature that improves durability and maintains stable performance even in urban routes or intense usage conditions.
The intelligent cooling system, known as IITMS, is designed to keep the motor and electronic components always within the ideal temperature range, ensuring greater reliability for the unit.
Autonomy, Battery, and Riding Modes

In terms of autonomy, the Matter Aera is equipped with a 5 kWh battery with IP67 certification — an international standard ensuring resistance to water and dust.
According to the manufacturer’s data, the model offers a real autonomy of up to 125 kilometers, potentially reaching 172 kilometers according to the Indian IDC cycle, which is used as a reference in India.
The charger is integrated into the motorcycle itself, facilitating recharging at conventional outlets and providing greater convenience to the user.
The average consumption can be as low as R$ 0.25 per kilometer traveled in India, reinforcing the appeal of economy and sustainability.
The riding experience is enhanced by the three available riding modes — Eco, City, and Sport — which, combined with the four gears of the HyperShift transmission, offer a total of 12 different riding configurations.
This variety allows the rider to adapt the motorcycle’s performance to their riding style and traffic conditions, providing more efficiency in urban routes and greater sportiness on open roads.
Technological Dashboard and Connectivity of the Matter Aera

In terms of onboard technology, the Aera features a 7-inch touchscreen TFT display, sensitive to touch, with GPS navigation functions, call control, music playback, and real-time telemetry.
The system receives OTA (over-the-air) updates and offers full connectivity: 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the proprietary application MatterVerse, which allows monitoring of the vehicle from a distance, setting circulation areas (geo-fencing), accessing detailed usage statistics, and even locking or unlocking the motorcycle remotely from a smartphone.
Matter Aera: Safety, Comfort, and Engineering
Safety features are also a highlight.
The Matter Aera offers nine-axis IMU sensors for real-time analysis of tilt and movement, an ABS dual disc braking system, and the possibility of implementing traction control or curve-acting ABS, technology typically found only in premium models on the international market.
The suspension was specifically designed for the urban environment, featuring telescopic forks in the front and dual shock absorbers in the rear, providing comfort and robustness even on uneven city streets.

Another important aspect of the project is the verticalized engineering of Matter Motors.
Based in Ahmedabad, India, the company controls all development, from hardware to software, ensuring integration and quality in all processes.
As of July 2025, there are 375 patents registered globally, covering everything from the electric transmission, intelligent cooling system, to fast charging technologies and electronic energy management.
Export, Expansion, and New Launches
Expectations are that exports of the Matter Aera with manual transmission will begin in 2025, initially targeting Latin America, including Brazil, as well as Southeast Asia, East Africa, and parts of Southern Europe.
The manufacturer’s goal is to achieve production of up to 120,000 units per year by 2026, demonstrating global ambition and confidence in the growth potential of the electric motorcycle market.
Matter Motors is also preparing a portfolio expansion for the coming years.
Between 2025 and 2027, the company plans to launch urban electric scooters, motorcycles focused on commercial use, and an exclusive line of technical apparel for motorcyclists.
The objective is to attract different consumer profiles and establish the brand as a reference in innovation in the electric mobility sector.

Brazilian Market and the Future of Electric Riding
In the Brazilian context, the arrival of the Matter Aera could mark an important change in the behavior of motorcyclists looking to transition to electric models without giving up the feeling of traditional mechanical riding.
By combining the practicality of electric vehicles, cost-effectiveness per kilometer traveled, and advanced connectivity, the model positions itself as one of the main bets to transform urban mobility in the country.
Will the tradition of motorcycles with manual transmissions also win over Brazilians in the electric realm, or will national preference continue to lean towards the simplicity of automatic models?
