The Municipality of Chapada, in RS, Will Receive Its First Wind Farm Soon. The New Wind Energy Park in the Region Will Be Able to Supply About 40 Thousand Homes
A race for cleaner and cheaper ways to generate renewable energy shows that electricity is the bet for fossil fuels to be replaced in the future. Although Brazil still relies on thermoelectric plants and dams for energy generation, the world is already using wind for wind energy generation. However, in Passo Fundo (RS), the first steps for this type of electricity generation are already being taken.
Municipality in RS May Receive Its First Wind Farm Soon
The city of Chapada (RS), near Carazinho, will soon receive its first wind farm located in the North of the State. Ecoprojetos, a local company that has partnerships in Germany, will soon file a request for the project with the State Environmental Protection Foundation (Fepam).
Mara Rockemback, manager of Ecoprojetos, explained in an interview with Uirapuru that the company has been working with wind energy for several years and started its activities in the country in 2001. Since 2016, Ecoprojetos has been operating an anemometric tower in Chapada for measurement, where it was analyzed that the winds in this region of RS are very good for wind energy use. Thus, a project for the municipality of RS has been developed, starting with environmental licensing and various studies, from technical to environmental.

Ceará brings together 7 giants and R$ 66 billion to transform Pecém into the largest green hydrogen hub in Brazil, with final decisions expected by the end of 2026.
After the survey, which is almost ready, the company must file it with Fepam as soon as next week. According to the manager, the wind farm project initially includes six wind turbines. The model chosen by Ecoprojetos for installation features a tower 120 meters tall and blades that are about 80 meters long. These equipment are gigantic and have a power output of 4.2 MW, capable of generating enough energy to supply 40 thousand homes, considering an average consumption of 300 kWh per month.
Wind Farm in the Municipality of RS Will Receive Investments Around R$ 180 Million
According to Mara, the investment for each wind turbine is around R$ 30 million. In the area where they will be installed, a soil test has also been conducted. However, the cost is still high, given that it will be necessary to create a robust structure, along with investments in machinery, equipment, and all the installations required for a project of this nature.
After the licensing of the wind farm project, the commercialization of the produced wind energy will be facilitated, and afterward, the wind turbines will be ordered. Therefore, there is still no date for the project to be installed.
The location where the plant will be built in RS is along the ERS – 330, which connects the municipality to Carazinho, a stretch that will be paved soon.
Wind Energy Market in RS
In July of last year, RS reached fifth place in the ranking of Brazilian states with the highest installed wind energy capacity.
At that time, there were around 1.8 GW of capacity spread across 80 wind farms. This type of source contributes to 19.6% of the installed capacity in the state and 27.5% of the energy generated.
According to the state governor, Ranolfo Vieira Júnior, at that time, the government has been taking advantage of this generation opportunity also in areas owned by the State and possible to be utilized, such as Lagoa dos Patos.
