Wind Power in Brazil, Nordex Turbines for Statkraft to Implement Brazilian Project
One of the largest orders from Statkraft involving the wind power industry with Nordex includes 91 wind turbines, the largest order of N163 / 5.X turbines since its market launch in 2019. This has placed the Norwegian company in a prominent position in South America.

The Largest Wind Energy Project by Statkraft in South America So Far
At the end of 2020, Statkraft Energias Renováveis, the Brazilian subsidiary of Europe’s largest renewable energy producer, the Norwegian Statkraft, placed a large-scale order with the Nordex Group for a 518.7 MW project in Brazil. The Nordex Group will equip Statkraft’s largest wind farm in South America to date, named “Winds of Santa Eugenia,” with 91 N163 / 5.X turbines.
It is the largest order from the Nordex Group for N163 / 5.X turbines since the launch of this turbine on the market in 2019 and the first order outside Europe. The Nordex Group is now also supplying this turbine from the Delta4000 series with a rated power of over 5 MW for the Brazilian market.

Every time a river flows into the sea, an amount of energy equivalent to a 120-meter waterfall is silently wasted, but Japan has just inaugurated the world’s first power plant that captures this waste and transforms it into electricity 24 hours a day without sun, wind, or fuel.

20-Year Contract
Statkraft’s wind power order also includes a premium service contract covering three years, as well as a technical support contract for the customer and turbines for a period of 20 years.
The wind farm “Winds of Santa Eugenia” will be built near Uibaí, in the state of Bahia, in the northeast of the country. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2023. The turbines will be supplied in optimized operation mode of 5.7 MW and will be installed on 120-meter concrete towers.
“We are very pleased that Statkraft has chosen our turbine technology and we appreciate the trust placed in us to equip their largest South American wind farm. With this Delta4000 series turbine, designed specifically for sites with moderate to medium winds, Statkraft will be able to produce clean wind energy at a low energy cost and provide the necessary electricity to the Brazilian market,” says Patxi Landa, Nordex Group CSO.
For the “Winds of Santa Eugenia” project, the Nordex Group will manufacture the N163 / 5.X in Brazil. The concrete towers will also be constructed at one of the company’s local factories near the site. Additionally, Nordex is purchasing rotor blades from Brazil to include the maximum local added value in the project.
The N163 / 5.X was launched in 2019 and is designed for sites with medium and low winds. As part of the Delta4000 series, it is based on a flexible power range approach in the 5 MW class. In the past, the Nordex Group installed and commissioned the “Baillie” wind farm of 52.5 MW in Scotland, as well as the “Kilathmoy” wind farm of 23 MW in Ireland.
