How the Honda Civic G8 revolutionized the sedan car market with a bold design and technological advances in its eighth generation.

When the Honda Civic G8 arrived on the Brazilian market in 2006, it was not just a new car; it was a completely renewed sedan proposal. This eighth generation Civic is designed to break standards and redefine expectations, both in terms of style and performance. With a bold design and a series of technological and mechanical improvements, the Civic G8 stood out as a notable evolution in the line, quickly gaining the attention of consumers and marking a new phase in the model's history. In this article, we'll explore how the Civic G8 has established itself as an icon of innovation in the sedan market.

Discover the Honda Civic G8

The Honda Civic has always had a young fan base, attracted by its mechanics and customization possibilities.

However, the aesthetics of the previous model were not impressive and were often compared to the Toyota Corolla, its main competitor.

The new model It had a distinctive appearance that initially caused doubts even within the company itself.

The horizontal headlights were designed thinner, giving a more aggressive look, and were connected by a chrome finish with the Honda logo in the center.

The front bumper also gained a new shape, projected forward and with a single central opening for the fog lights.

The side of the Honda Civic G8 has been redesigned with more creases and a continuous line that runs across the entire body, providing a more aerodynamic look.

The rear part kept lights that invade the trunk, but with a cleaner and more modern design.

The eighth generation of the Honda Civic brought a new mechanical package. The 1.7 engine was replaced by a four-cylinder aspirated 1.8, capable of generating up to 140 hp and 17,7 kgfm.

Initially only available with gasoline fuel, the engine soon became flex fuel.

This engine uses a timing chain instead of the previous model's timing belt and is available with a five-speed manual or automatic transmission, both with front-wheel drive.

The Civic G8's new platform has slightly increased the car's dimensions in length, width and wheelbase, although the overall height has decreased.

The vehicle's weight increased by 85 kg, and the trunk volume reduced from 402 to 340 liters.

The four-wheel independent suspension was maintained and the wider track contributed to an improvement in dynamic behavior. Four-wheel disc brakes complete the package.

The driver experience

The interior of the Honda Civic G8 has undergone a significant transformation. The internal design gained sophistication, with new coverings, color palette and a completely renewed layout.

The instrument panel was divided into two floors, with a digital speedometer at the top and a rev counter at the bottom, close to the steering wheel.

Furthermore, the center console was aimed at the driver and, depending on the version, included digital air conditioning.

The steering wheel was also updated with controls for the autopilot and the entertainment system, as well as paddles for manual shifts, an innovation at the time.

The interior is lit with a combination of blue and white light, adding a modern touch.

an innovative model

The technology in the Honda Civic G8 was one of the brand's weak points previously, but this generation has brought notable improvements.

The Civic G8 stood out for not offering optional packages, with a satisfactory list of equipment starting from the most basic version.

The most economical version of the Honda Civic included ABS brakes, dual front airbags, power steering, air conditioning, three-point belts for all occupants, split rear seat, radio with CD Player and electric trio (windows, locks and rear view mirrors).

A version The more expensive version added a 6-CD changer, fog lights, digital air conditioning and a multifunctional steering wheel with paddle shifters.

Both versions came with a special valet key that did not allow access to the trunk.

How much does this model cost?

According to the FIPE table, the Honda Civic G8 can be purchased for, on average, R$38.618.

The Honda Civic on the market

The Honda Civic G8 is known for its independent suspension and firm setup that provides agile and controlled driving, ideal for those who enjoy driving.

The “New Civic” is considered by many to be the best version of the model and is still highly valued on the used market.

The Si sports version, offered by Honda, is a valuable addition for sports car enthusiasts, offering a different option in a market lacking this type of vehicle.

On the other hand, the trunk of the Civic G8 is significantly smaller than that of competitors and even compared to the Honda City, a compact sedan.

Although ideal for sporty driving, the stiffer suspension can make the ride uncomfortable on poor asphalt roads.

Despite the Civic's reputation for durability, maintenance can be expensive, with parts and labor not necessarily affordable.

The Honda Civic G8 faced competition from models such as the Ford Focus Sedan, Renault Mégane, Citroën C4 Pallas, Peugeot 307 Sedan and Volkswagen Bora.

Each of these cars offered different features and advantages, but the Honda Civic G8 stood out for its innovation and improvement over previous generations.
