With the Gas for the People Program, the government expands access to cooking gas, conducts successful operational tests, and modernizes the distribution of the social benefit throughout the country

The Gas for the People Program successfully began its operational testing phase at gas distribution points, under the supervision of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), according to a report published.

The initiative represents a social and technological advance for over 15 million Brazilian families in vulnerable situations.

The program replaces the old Brazilians’ Gas Aid, guaranteeing the free recharge of 13-kilogram gas cylinders, with resources secured in the federal budget for 2025, estimated at R$ 3.57 billion.

The first tests took place in Goiânia (GO), with the participation of public bodies such as the MME, the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance (MDS), the Federal Savings Bank, and Dataprev, validating the functionality of the new ways to access the benefit.

Practical Tests Prove the Efficiency of the Free Recharge System

During the simulations, the Gas for the People Program underwent three methods of verifying access to the benefit: Bolsa Família card, program-specific card (issued by Caixa), and authentication via CPF in the system of approved distributors.

Ten families participated in the operation, which also tested error situations, such as duplicate use or attempts to withdraw with a card from an unauthorized institution.

All tests were successfully completed, demonstrating that the system is technically prepared to be implemented on a national scale.

Representatives from the MME monitored each stage, confirming the integrity and reliability of the digital platform.

This phase is essential to ensure that GLP distributors duly authorized by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) can operate safely and transparently.

The program establishes a standardized distribution model, strengthening the traceability of transactions and ensuring that resources reach the final beneficiary directly.

Gradual Expansion and Integration with the Federal Government’s Social Policies

The expansion of the Gas for the People Program will occur in phases. According to the timeline, the first Brazilian cities are expected to start operations this month, with total coverage projected by March 2026.

This new public policy triples the reach of the old benefit, jumping from 5.1 million to over 15 million households served across the country.

In addition to promoting food and energy security, the program integrates with social assistance policies and the country’s fair energy transition strategy.

The families included will have guaranteed free recharges at participating distributors, with no additional cost, except in cases of delivery fees or container replacement.

This measure reduces the economic impact on the most vulnerable populations and ensures more dignified access to cooking gas, essential for daily life and family safety.

Modernization of the Distribution System and Guarantee of Federal Resources

The Gas for the People Program also represents a significant modernization of the benefit concession model.

The distributors, accredited by Caixa and supervised by ANP, use integrated electronic systems to validate operations in real time. This innovation simplifies the process, eliminates intermediaries, and reduces fraud risks.

The budget of R$ 3.57 billion allocated to the program in 2025 ensures its full and continuous execution, strengthening the public policy of universal access to gas.

With the direct supervision of the MME and other partner institutions, the government reinforces its commitment to efficiency, transparency, and the social well-being of the families served.

Thus, the Gas for the People Program solidifies itself as a milestone of energy inclusion and citizenship in Brazil.
